Hi all. I am leaning pretty hard towards getting the BR1600. What are the downsides to this machine. If you own one...would you buy this one again??
Thanks in advance for the imput.

Go for it dude, I wish I got that instead of the 1180. It has the same sample rate as the VS2000 so why spend the extra money? Learn how to use it properly over time and you will grow very fond of it.

Hey Bronco,

I love the Boss BR1600.

The art of programming your own drum patterns can be a tad tedious, but with experience it will be a breeze!

It's a great machine. The loading up of each song seems a little slow but that's my impatience!

I am very happy with mine and won't be using anything else for a while yet!

Kev :) :) :) :)

I have only had the BR1600 for a few weeks now, but so far I am impressed. The onboard effects are amazing. Plug in what ever and process what ever sound you want. I mostly use mine for recording drums and guitars. A quick read through the basic manual and you are up and recording, doing punch-ins, using v-tracks, eq'ing, compressing....you get the picture. The only downsides I can see is there is no gating in the processor, and slow back up and download of files to your computer. For the price I paid, I can live with those foiables.

The only regret I have in not using a computer-based system is the tedious-ness of having to burn a CD to get my tracks online, but that is solely a personal problem as I don't have an Internet connection in my studio so even if I DID get a computer based system I'd have to do some re-modelling to get the computer online :D

No regrets at all as far as the BR1600 being the core of my recording process, none at all! Awesome, awesome piece of equipment.

Thanks for the replys. You guys are convincing me. I am thinking seriously about ordering one this weekend...

how about the difference between the BR1200 and the 1600??? I understand the 12vs16 tracks difference and how many tracks you can record at once..

but...is that the only difference??....I mean if you take away that part...are the sounds the same??

thanks again everyone.

Well...never mind the 1200vs1600 comments....my impatience got to me...and I ordered the BR1600...Now the nail biting starts as I wait for my machine to be shipped. I think I will really like it when I get it...its that waiting part that I don't do so well.

Thanks again for the replys....I think I will enjoy this site.

take care
Greg

Hey funk, I had that problem until I bought my daughter an Ipod. funny thing is with that program we've set it up as our default cd player on the computer so any music cd that gets put into the hardrive automatically gets zipped onto Itunes. From there I've just saved a song to my desktop (any other easily accessible file will do as well) and presto!! pull it out when you send your e-mail.

Not sure what you mean? My BR1600 is in my basement studio with no online connection or PC. I have to burn a CD (from the BR1600) everytime I want to get a track onto my computer.

I've thought about maybe getting a USB storage key, would that even work with the BR1600?

Once I have a mastered track I hook up my pc via the USB port on the BR1600 and load up into my PC then convert the wav file into a mp3 and post away!......Easy...it takes about 5 mins! :)

After listening to Gortys "Hyperactive Wah Wah" , I can't wait to get my new BR1600...Gorty....That sounds great !! Did you use all internal sounds for your guitar??....man...you seem to have a pretty good handle on the deck....I can't wait to get started with mine.

Hey Bronco,

Thanx for listening and the compliments!

Everything was done on the Boss BR1600.
The guitars were just plugged straight into the BR1600 and different settings were used. The lead guitar just had the Wah Wah pedal in the chain before plugging straight into the BR1600.
The Bass was just plugged straight in and no effects or presets were used!

It's a good little unit with great potential....I'm still learning!

Gorty :)

Thats got my blood boiling Gorty....hopefully mine will arrive before the weekend.....then....its go time.... :)

You will love it Bronco...I guarantee it! :)

Let me know if you have any queries I may be able to help you with! :)

I would've gotten the VS2000CD. It's going for $1,499.00 these days. Apparently. The ability to hook it up to a mouse and VGA monitor is worth the extra expense. You'd save hours, literally, per song, in editing and other stuff.

er...yeah...uh...thanks for the "help" sir ultra....

was that meant to make me feel bad about my new purchase??

If I were a parent of yours....I would have taught you about tact !!

To everyone else that helped me with my question....I apologize.

Um....

No. It was meant as a suggestion. Does the store you bought it from have a decent return policy? If so, return it, and ask them to match the price on a VS2000CD. That is what I would do in your place.

I have no ego involved here. I was trying to help you get the best recorder possible within a reasonable price differential from the BR1600. The VS2000CD, and the Korg D3200 are the best bets under $1,500.00 USD. And, out of those 2, I chose the 2000CD because of the plugin expandability and the potential for the VGA.

PS, I paid 2000 Euros for my 2000CD, so I am not exactly thrilled with Roland for dropping the price 500 bucks. That is why I would grab this recorder at this price if I had the chance.

Mk, I see eye to eye with you on this one. The feeling is mutual, my machine is different but the situation is likewise. I'm now debating wheter to get just the 1600 for more tracks cuz it really does everything I want( like my BR1180 just not enough tracks) or get the VS2000 that is really close in pricing...but then I'll want the screen mouse and my gf will take my credit cards away.
Always get things a little better than you anticipate because you will always be ambitious and "need" more later.

Yeah, but you don't have to get the VGA interface or any of the other goodies straight away. I got my 2000CD in September, but couldn't afford the VGA interface until Christmas. Now, I would not want to go back to the little screen and pressing all of those 'to' 'from' 'huh?' buttons. Anyway, whatever.
