If someone 3rd party, totally seperate from Steinberg, was able to develope a SX3 update that was UB compatible would that be legal?
Technically, to do that, they would need to reverse engineer Cubase to figure out how to write the patch. In which case it would be illegal.
I never had any time for Steinberg anyway. Yeah, I paid for the software, but have never once raised a support call. Hell,
I can't even register as far as I know, because my email account is hotmail. I think Steinberg are arrogant, but to be fair, after putting up with Microsofts shit for so many years, they seem infintely humble. Hell, at least Steinberg don't charge you £30 for every support call you make.
I don't know what level of support Steinberg offer, but their attitude leads me to beleive that it would be pretty shitty. Although I have heard one or two good things. Nonetheless, SX3 is and will be the last product I buy from them. I decided that when I first read that announcement, and at the time I had literally just bought the software. Cubase SX3 is still a fine program, and obviouly I'm not going to just shitcan it because of no more updates. It works fine for me, but I was less than impressed at the 3 hours it took me to get it to work due to the iffy security center that came with the last update. I wouldn't touch Cubase 4 with a bargepole though. And when it's time for me to 'tender' an upgrade to new software (which is a long way away), Steinberg will not get a damn look in.
Day after day I am dreading the minute my dongle packs up. Blood will be shed, I can tell ya.
