ok heres the deal, I was offerer a mesa boogie slanted cab 4x12 from my friend for $100(v-30's), obviously I couldn't say no. I had been planning to switch my rig out from marshall to mesa anyway. My question for you guys is helping me decide on a mesa head. I'm seriously considering a triple rec(which Ive played and love) however if theres minimal differences between that and the dual rec I'd prefer that to save the money. Ive also been concidering the Mesa/Boogie Simul-Class 290 Power Amplifier and coupling it with my Boss GX-700 for my effects (distortion mostly) but I dont have much experience with rack mounted power amps and is what Im listing all I need to get my new rig up and running. And how well would that power amp work with my rec cab???

any help would be greatly appreciated
By the way my style is basically bluesey rhythems with heavy distortion

the dual rec will be fine....100 watts of boogie power is retarded...and you'll never turn that thing up loud enough to hurt it...if you were playing somewhere big enough for that you'd be goign through the P.A.

the power amp situation, you'd need a preamp for. like i said above, 100 watts from boogie is more than you'll ever need so i'd go with the 2:50 power amp they have now instead of the 50/50

so yeah...best guess would be get the dual rectifier...STOP USING YOUR BOSS DISTORTION and use the amps...and then apply effects when needed

Mesa's dirty channel is what put them on the map, it would kill your Boss pedal. From what I hear from my amp tech who services these things every week. Buy one from 5 or more years ago as Mesa's really cut some corners. I have a 2001 F-100 and it's always treated me right but some other friends with newer mesas have some sad stories. If you're stuck between a dual and a triple rec, stick with the dual, simpler circuit, better tone. Just snatch up one from the late 90s.

cheers

I think the dual rec is an over rated amp. It's an ok sound but, I use the mesa DC-5 heads(two of them) 500.00 used. You would probably look for the dc-10 (700-800 used). OUt of production but killer. Even better the mark IV which has the simi-class power section (1000-1200 used).

you were talking about a simuclass power amp. Match it up with a tri-axis preamp, and your talking great stuff.

triaxis is a pretty extensive and expensive piece of gear to get distortion...i'd say steer completely clear...

the triaxis and a power amp and you are looking over 2k

can you suggest a good pre amp??? I have a Marshall JMP-1 tube Preamp, I'll run that to the boss effects processor(cutting out the distortion of coarse), run the processor to the mesa 2:50 power amp(setting up natural distortion/od) then to my rec cab, what do you think???? it would be great if you can suggest a good mesa preamp aswell, I like to stay with in the family

A triple rec is overkill. You'll never need that much volume. I have a single rectifier (Rectoverb head) and it's fucking loud.

Why would it ever matter what name is on the front? Just get something that sounds good. You like the JMP-1? Then use it. Don't get a Mesa just because it says "Mesa" on the front. That's stupid.

That said, I love my DC-3. :)

ya...i responded to him telling him thta i use the jmp-1 with a 50/50...have for years...love it to death...

the jmp-1 has taken a beating...i got both pieces used at 400 a pop maybe 6 years ago?? when the jmp-1 was 700 bucks new...

now i see it for closer to 1400

and i must say the pedal (that isnt included, i paid 125 for it) isn't really something i'd consider worthy of touring and stomping on everyday

DC-5 is a very good all tube amp. Very Loud, but has an output control so you can tame it down a bit for home use if needed.

Yes, I love my DC-3 also, great amp and ungodly loud for 30 watts. Got mine for 200 used.
