Ok here goes i hope someone can help...
i recently purchased everything for a home studio, ive been using alesis which came with cubase, but i prefer cool edit because i know how to use it better. When i record in cool edit my vocals do not match with the instrumentals or even the metronome in cool edit. I tried buying a gig of ram for my computer thinking that was the problem but after i installed it there still is an issue, and my voice seems a little higher pitched when i record it. Does anybody know how i can get my vocals on beat like when i hear it in the headphones?

Also, do i have to record mono with my alesis? how do i record studio and hear it through both headphones? when i put it to studio it is in one headphone and records only at the top

An audio interface can fix your latency problem.
ram is good, but don't forget CPU power.

check out the Delta 44

whats the delta 44? And your saying that even though i bought ram it can still have a problem? When i record it will be early or late, its just terribly off...

Look up "Latency". This is your problem! (Well, the main problem)

cool, im going to bring my tower in somewhere tommorow and hav them erase everything off my computer or something....if anyone else has any ideas let me know

If you move the track to where it should be does it match the whole song? I mean, is it in time? If it is that is a latency problem like everyone has said (a very common problem in home recording). I had a problem a while back where even if I moved the track to where it should be at the start, it would slowly get off from the beat. I was told this could be caused my mismatched sample rates but eventually fixed my problem by not using 2 separate devices for input and output.

I don't understand, what are you going to take your computer in for?

what are the specs on your computer?
Processor = (example- AMD 64 2.0 )
Ram =
available space on Hard-drive
open Pci Slots

WAIT... i totally forgot you said you had somthing by Alesis, Is it an interface usb/firewire?
you might just need to change your buffer setting, or maybe there is a low latency box (like my 003)

you might be good right were you are, i would call Alesis and see what they can do.

i got my computer (they rebuilt it for more space) and i still have an issue with my lyrics not matching the metronome.....ive messed around in cool edit, but how should i change the buffer size or sample rate?

Everything is mono. Stereo is the difference between left and right. A stereo track is nothing more than two discrete mono tracks.

1 = 1.

what does that got to do with anything?
Sorry -- I meant to quote this in my reply:

What Massive is trying to tell you is that when you record in stereo with one mic, it will send that signal either R or L. The second mic, which is missing in this example would be sent to the opposite channel R or L. Since you are using only one mic, you're only going to hear it in one headphone when you record in stereo. So record in mono and you'll hear it in both ears. Seems backwards I know.

A good question for you to ask and ponder is when would you want to record stereo and why,

The only things i like to record in stereo (so far)
are DrumKits and acoustic guitar, but not all acoustic guitar.

I think most people record in mono to obtain more control over the track.
Well... Bruce Swedien likes to record just about everything in stereo.

although we just might have gotten to far for AKStudio.

Basically dude :
1) Fix your latency problem
2) Record in mono

thanks, i'll keep trying to fix the latency problem, or will just have to teach myself how to use cubase LE
