Any experience with Spektral plugins?

In partuclar the Spektral Shaper " is a FFT based 4096 bands equalizer alike effect which affects only magnitudes. The purpose of this plugin is the ability to capture a preset from another wave file and apply it to your sample. That is, to apply a 4096 bands equalizer setting from a captured sample to yours. You are also able to draw / modify presets with pencil, smoothing or sharpening tools".
That sounds a lot like Steinberg FreeFilter, except that a bundle of three Spectral plugins is only $55. Take a look at http://www.delaydots.com/
Has anyone used it? Good or bad?
 
I've used free filter before, and frankly, I think it's pretty useless.

The only time an eq setting from one .wav file will sound good on yours is if you are playing the exact same song, the exact same arrangement in the exact same way with the exact same instruments with the exact same people.

In theory, it's a neat concept, but it just doesn't apply, because different performances call for different eq curves.
 
Thought about that, too. It's kind of silly IMO to use the exact same EQ settings as another song, since two different songs will get louder/quieter at different times, and have (many times) different instruments, if not just different tones.

If you're talking about the spectral balance, that's a different issue.

Even with spectral balances . . . one that sounds good on song 2 might sound downright weird on song3, because in a lot of instances you are trying to bring out what isn't even there. It's just unnatural.
 
very true. And (without getting into another "louder is better" thread... don't we have two of those going currently?) doesn't radio use those mastering processors to alter the spectral balance? More sheen, scooped mids, etc? The other threads have pretty much covered how unnatural that sounds.

Before you trash this thread for duplicating subjects, let me note that the specific purpose of it was to find out how good Spektral plugins were as compared to Steinberg ME FreeFilter.

I respect other peoples experience. But as Chess stated, he had used FreeFilter before. I want to try something like that too.

So, any opinion on Spektral plugins?
 
It's comparing apples to oranges.

One emulates and alters the balance of a .wav file's freq. spectrum.

The other merely shows you what the file's frequency spectrum is.
 
despite what some of yall think....i think freefilter is a good program, which gives a good starting point even if u morph it just 1% its still helping

as for spectral plugins i used timeworks EQ. its real good at doing that in my opinion. but it is pricey
