Anybody know where (besides ebay, there are none there) I can find a Tech 21 Sansamp Classic? They say I should look for an original, not a reissue. Anybody know what the difference is? Anybody have experience with one?

I think the reissue is a 9V while the original is a 6V and I think that is pretty much the only diffrence between the two.

I haven't had any experience with the particular unit, but based on the Sansamp gear I have and I've played, I would unequivocally recommend anything they make. Do some research to make sure it's voiced for the sounds you're after, but the fundamental quality is there.

Anybody have experience with one?

I have the original...just like the one in the eBay link above.

I used it for awhile a long time ago...back in the early 90's...and I have to say, it is capable of some nice amp simulations. I actually like it better than some of the digital fodder out there these days as I just can't get past the digital "sound" which I can hear when I'm actually playing through it in my room...though in a mix, I guess it can be masked fairly well. But the SansAmp has that analog vibe.

Anyway...not sure what is a "good" price for a used one, but I don't think you will be disappointed with the overall sound quality and its ability to cover a lot of amp tones.
Biggest PITA are the small dip switches. You need a narrow tool, (I guess a small screwdriver works, just don't break the one of the dips :D )...
...other than that, I never had any issues/complaints about it.
I use to use it together with a H&K Red Box...that way I go amp and cab simulation, and was able to run the balanced XLR outout of the H&K right into mixer's balanced mic inputs.

Heck...I may break mine out this weekend and give it whirl...it's just been sitting there, since I use real amps these days and have a few decent ones to pick from...but I bet I could coax some nice tones out of it that would fit alongside my real amps.

But it's not digital,it's analog.

I know...I was talking about digital modelers....maybe you didn't get my meaning....

Yup, that's the one..... I missed it. I think I've noticed that the original one doesn't say "Classic" on it, the "Classic" IS the reissue. Wonder why there aren't more of them for sale. That usually means they are either in the trash long ago, or they are so good nobody wants to let go of it.

I was hoping I could get a used one for a lot less than that, but the prices on these things are fairly high. I can test drive a Damage Control Womanizer for a lot less money, but no idea if it would have the variety that the Sansamp appears to have. The Womanizer is not supposed to be a modeller, but it is a nicely glorified DI box.

Actually, I take that back.....item number 150409738954 which was posted just a few hours ago is the Sansamp Classic that ebay didn't have when I posted my question. The one you found is not a "Classic" it is an original, which is actually supposed to be a much better catch if I can get one.

Strange how that turned up on ebay just a few hours after I posted my question on 263 different forums......

Sorry,I must be dyslexic.:D

I decided to skip the Sansamp thing. I figured that most of the time I would still need an amp and a speaker anyway, so why not just use my amp and my speaker. I do not foresee any situations where I need to run direct into a board, which is the real strength of the Sansamp stuff as far as I can tell.

Besides, for the price these things are getting, I can think of a few other things I need/want more.... maybe i was just taken in by the romantic allure of the cleverly designed clips...
