Hey all, I'm checking out an Epiphone Les Paul standard on Ebay, and I wanna see some one on one reviews? I read a bunch, and basically the thing gets an 8 outta 10 on harmony central, and that's very good. Anybody here own one and can tell me some more good things hopefully? or bad? thanks!
 
Epiphones are quite good guitars. I own an Epi Basher and have preferred playing it over my Strat copy. It records well and puts up with my abuse. I'm sure that if I had the real deal I would probably prefer it over the Epi, but aside from that I have absolutely no complaints.

I"ve played a Les Paul copy, Strat copy, and a E335 or 55 or whatever copy. The Les Paul was good. Definitely worth the going price. Some damn nice finishes out there too. I didn't care for the Strat copy. But I'm used to playing $1000 and up strat types. The semi-hollow was a bit tempermental until I had the pickups dipped in wax and a set-up done on it. Then it was great.
 
I've had an Epi Sheraton II for about 10 or 12 years. The workmanship is excellent, sound is excellent, playability is excellent. Sorry, haven't tried the Epi Les Paul.

hey thanks everyone :) looks like I'll have to go up north to guitar center and play some...eh but who knows anymore, maybe I should get a tele. i'm not even sure anymore.
 
The Epi Les Paul Custom is a quantam leap ahead of the Standard in feel and "fit and finish". Like all modern mass produced guitars though, play a bunch to pick just one. If you know what you want in terms of feel and playability, your guitar will "speak" to you out of the group of possibles. I found a used Epi Custom for about $425 at a local music store. It makes an excellant alternate to my Strat. But, you gotta pay with the weight on your shoulder, the Les Paul Custom is plain heavy. That body mass helps account for the typical LP sustain.
 
I have an epi LP standard (navy blue with a little bit of sparkle). I really like it, and I would get another.
 
I've got a '99 Limited Edition Epiphone LP Standard (I think I got it for $500).

I am going to put better pups in there, but it is a very nice guitar and to my sense feels about the same as contemporary Gibson LPs.

Since you mentioned a telecaster, I also have an Hecho En Mexico Standard Tele that I bought last year. I am also in the process of trying to update the pickups on that one and am still looking for input on that situation on another topic ("Mas Silencio"):

I just LOVE the way it looks and feels and it was cheaper than my Epi LP knock-off. I'd say the Fender Standards are to the Epis what the Amercian Standards are to the "real McCoy" Gibsons.

Put me down for an Epiphone BB King Lucille.

Absolutely gorgeous finish with triple binding throughout (w/b/w/b/w). The gold hardware makes it look very classy. The flaws in the finish are damned hard to find - if indeed there are any. But I think it may be the top of the range Epi, so I suppose you'd expect that.

The Lucille plays like a dream, so it makes me wonder why I'm selling it :)

Well, I have an Ibanez Artist now, and Lucille doesn't get a look in these days. :( I just can't trust those two in the same room together... :D

I have an Epi Les Paul and an Epi Dot. I'm very happy with both of them.

I was very surprized to see Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top playing Epi Les Paul on stage a couple of weeks ago. But, it sounded great.
 
I have an Epi 335 Dot that I love, but it's the only electric I've ever owned, and I'm not really a guitarist. But my axe-slinging buds have played it, and THEY like it too...

wow! im starting to love this place, everybody here is very honest and helpfull lol! thanks a bunch guys! hopefully I'll get some money saved and then can goto guitar center and blow it all :D thats the best part of having money ;)
 
I have an Epi J-200 acoustic that I love. Its a great guitar...made great and sounds great.
 
I've got an Indonesian Epiphone SG Special that is a wonderful guitar. I also own a Gibson SG Supreme, so the little Epi's up against some pretty stiff competition. I changed the pickups on the Supreme to Seymour Duncans, and dropped the classic 57 humbuckers from the supreme right into the Epiphone, which gives it much larger balls.
The key point is this- the biggest problem with all cheap mass produced guitars is quality control. I probably played about 12 Epiphone SG Specials before I found one with no buzzes and good intonation. Don't be afraid to make the salesman bring you guitars. It's what they get paid for.
It's kind of a hoot on stage too, my $2100 SG and my $179 SG. And I assure you, I use them both. I'm afraid I also have a national bias. I've had good luck with Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, and some Mexican made guitars. I have *never* played a guitar made in China that didn't suck. What do you expect from a country where playing rock n' roll can get you sent to a cadre school (boot camp)?
 
I bought my son an Epiphone Zephyr Blues Deluxe for Christmas. I thought it was a damn fine guitar for what I paid for it ($500).

Maybe its just me, but all of the Epiphone's that I've played (keep in mind this would be newer models only... not before they became the Squier of Gibson)... anyway... all the ones I've played seem to have issues with the nut binding up the strings. Especially on the G string. Making it hop around a little in tuning. There are ways obviously to correct this, but be warned that you need to make sure it will hold tune before buying a new one.

I have a 2001 Epi Wildkat, and I am seriously content with the playability, sound, and look of this guitar. It is sweet.
 
I have an Epi Les Paul modified w/ Roland Guitar Syth pickup and an Epi Les Paul Special bass. I am satisfied with both, and both were good bang for the buck.
