we don't need rest!!
After demo-ing the mic modeler now for a bit, I find that the plugin is extrememly subtle, and except for some of the Shure models, that many are incredibaly hard to distinquish from one another...especially in a mix..or even side by side for that matter. I have had several other people comment the same also in my control room. Also, the tube saturation settings seems more like a volume control (with a bit of distortion wanting to creep in at high settings) and I don't hear the sound being *warmed up* at all. I have read that the modeling with some tweaking may emulate pretty closely some of the mics, but I found that it just seemed to be a low shelving filter that was in place...or a single band parametric for that matter. I wasn't too impressed to buy it...WAY TOO SUBTLE...and I know...sure that can be the name of the game.
I use a pair of JBL 4311's and a set of Auratones with an Alesis RA100 power amp in a 10 x 12 room.
Any other opinions out there?

BTW, I find the autotune plugin a true gem and very useful..not to mention a session saver when the player has left the building.

I agree totally with you! But while we're on this topic, I was wondering if anyone could shed light on how a company such as Antares would create a program like Mic Modeler...would it be painstaking work? Or is it simple to include this many Mic's and advertise them as sounding just like their counterparts in their physical forms. How is it done?

Thanks!

I tried downloading the software demo and it wouldn't to work. Oh well. If you go to their website, they talk about the technology used to create the program. It's not the most complicated code, according to them....

They talk about the limitations of the modeling - one being off-axis response. They do not attempt to model this in any way, being that there are just to many factors in determining off-axis response, such as the room, the source, etc.

Also, you need a nice mic to begin with, that cheap radio shack dynamic mic will never sound like a U87, no matter what.

Score one for the real thing here. The cart is ahead of the horse, but I'll stay back and ride the horsie.....

Hey, i been playing with the free 10 day trial too. Might be worth about $10 as far as i can figure.

this program is a cute toy, mayeb good for an effect here and there. but in my opinion, mostly useless.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear
so they say
But the Autotune is a gem
Cheers
