Unpossible!
Can anyone tell me how to unlock plugins or the different mixer windows, so they can be outside of the project window. My mixer 3 does this now, but it's the only one. I know there is a setting for it, but I can't remember wheer it is.

Thanks.

yeah i'd like to know how to do this too! it sucks having 2 monitors and only being able to use one of em for Cubase....

I pull the one mixer to the other mon, but everything else has to be in the project window. If I change my vid adapter settings, I can stretch the project window to two screens, but that messes with everything else besides cubase.

I dont really understand what problems you guys have? I use two monitors. I drag the program window to fit both screens and then have the arrangment window on one screen and everything else in the other. That's usually how it works unless the program is designed as modular windows (Digital Performer, Adobe Programs, Final Cut Pro).

well i can drag the program window to fit both screens, but then if i maximize the project window, it spreads across both screens and i don't really like that. i'd rather have the project screen maximized in one window, then have the mixer and FX and junk on the other screen.

Size the program window to fit both monitors then just size the project window to fit one screen and then drag your mixer(s) and transport to the other screen, save as template and then you are set! this is so simple.

I can't spread the project window across two screens. I am able to pull the transport bar and the one mixer to the other screen, and there is a setting to be able to do it - I just can't remember.

I do it the way Carter does. What I do is open Cubase and then unmaximize the window before opening a project. When it is unmaximized then you can manually size it to cover two screens. When you open a project, manually size the main window there to cover just the first screen. Then I place my mixers and channel inspectors, plugins etc... in the second screen. I actually have three screens. Cubase takes the first two, and I use the third to keep my RME Totalyzer up so I always have a detailed stereo image analyzer, phase meter, metering, and RTA visible.

I believe, you can also right click the window frame of your mixer, transport etc... and select "always on top". This option I believe allows you to place a window outside of the Cubase work environment.

If I remember right, my main video card offers a couple of desktop options. If I choose to stretch my desktop to the second screen, then the windows bar across the bottom also continues on to the second screen. When you maximize something in this mode it fills both screens which I do not like. If I choose the otpion to just extend my desktop to the second screen then when I maximize something it only fills the screen in which it started. This is the mode I use but the important thing if I remember right is that you do not actually maximize the Cubase screen, but manually size it to fit which allows you to fill both screens with it without affecting all other programs and having system boxes and such pop up halfway on each screen.

Hope this helps:)

Whoo Hoo!

Thanks Xstatic!

I have my vid adapter set up so that I can't stretch the window across two screens. When it could, it messed up a bunch of other stuff. HOWEVER, you can right click on any of the windows (plugins included!), and select "always on top", then they can be dragged "free floating" to the other screen!!!!!!!! I did it with the mixer 3 and transport bar along time ago, and forgot how I did it.

What difference does it make if the windows are outside the program? If you minimize the program do all of the extra windows also minimize using this method?

I am not sure how to answer your question JoeNovice because I am not sure I understand the question. Can you give an example?

I have two monitors, and the project window will only stretch to fit one monitor. So, I need some of the "windows" to be outside of the project. Click on the link in my post above, and you can see what it looks like.

I have two monitors as well. Once the program window is sized to fit both, the arrangement window may be sized (seperatly) to fit a single monitor. Once the sizing is done to the interior window, the maximize button will expand it to fit both mointors.

This way the program window's maximize buttons will toggle the whole program between single and dual views. The project window will also toggle between single and dual views (full).

Once that is setup; transport, mixer, and plugin windows can be moved to any location where they will appear every time.

Again, mine CANNOT be stretched to cover both screens. That was the reason for the question.....There are two completely different ways to set up your dual screen - the way yours is, and the way mine is now. :)
