Another stupid question - WAV file

I rendered a project, saved as a WAV file. Plays with Windows Media Player, shows as a .wav file, yet my Roxio software says it is not a supported file type??!!

Perhaps Roxio doesn't like the bit rate?

Okay, if you're rendering at as a 16-bit file, that wouldn't be the problem. If, on the other hand, you're rendering it at 24 (or 32) bits, try it again at 16 bits and see if that changes the result. I don't know if it will, but it would be worth a try.

I was under the impression that roxio only used Mp3's or other completed/compressed file types.

sjj - that was surely it, as I was able to recognize and burn a copy when I rendered it at 16bits. Also would explain why the CD I burned with Reaper last night skipped and sounded like crap on my truck stereo!

So much to learn!

m.g. - Roxio Creator will recognize most standard music file formats, except aiff.

I love recording and mixing, but all the parts after that (mastering and getting it onto disk) I hate. Once I get all of the songs I'm working on done and to a point I'm happy with I'm sending them somewhere to get mastered. Even a cheap place is probably better than what I can do, plus it'll save me the headache!

I may be wrong, but I think Reaper can burn to CD, I'll have to check that though.

Yes, Reaper can burn to CD - just put all your rendered songs in a file and its easy (remember to choose 16 bit format, as I learned!). Mastering before burning is another needed step, and its good to get another set of ears to do a little improving for you.

I'm currently in the process of having a dozen tracks mastered at finmastering. I don't have the ears for such things myself. There are a few folk in HR who do have great ears & canmaster really well then there are heaps of us who try the latest plug in to get by. I worked at it for a while but seriously need other ears and another perspective. Mixing is hard enough - I'm slowly getting my brain around that but even then extra trusted ears are an essential for me.
