The descriptions of some mixers and multitrack recorders say they have different numbers of "phono inputs" and "line inputs." For example, one mixer I've read about has 2 phono and 4 line inputs, so what's the difference between phono and line imputs? Also, is it possible to just send the music to the mixer and out to a regular 2-track cassete deck for recording and cut the multitrack recorder out of the process, or do I have to have one to record my music??

Yes it is possible, and sometimes desirable to record "live" through a mixer straight to a
stereo tape deck. (Cassette, Reel to Reel, CD recorder, Minidisc deck would all work just fine!)

Your band would have to be well rehearsed and tight! Any one members mistake will cause everyone to have to do it again!

Multi-tracks make it possible to keep any or all of the tracks, and just have one person redo their part, if they blow it.....

Sincerely;

Dom Franco
