I am anxiously awaiting the as-yet-to-be-released SUPA. The "Somewhat-Usable Pre Amp," a somewhat-but-not-quite competitive alternative to the RNMP. List price is rumored to be 50 cents/channel. Hollow-state, Class-I (for "incomplete"). Listed as TF/TL . . . Transformer-ful or transformerless, depending on user's subjective point of view.
I've heard it is scheduled for release sometime after Focusrite dumps their platinum series in favor of the "recycled aluminum" series. Which should sit well with the ultra-budget-conscious as well as environmentalists, Al Gore, and Hippies.
Okay, so when the hell are these these things coming out? I've got about $600 to blow, and I'm trying to decide between a used Two-channel Fucusrite Green Machine,
A dbx 586 (also 2-channel), or a Two-channel Presonus MP-20 I can get used for pocket change.
. . . Or I may just spend the money on one channel of the Grace Design, and load up on a bunch of Midiman / M-Audio 's to round things out untill my ship comes in. I'm leaning towards the Green Machine . . . two whole channels . . . winner of a super-sweet TEC award in '97 . . . and hey, it is focusrite. Then again Rip Rowan gave the dbx's a rave review a while back . . . but he seems to be the only one who's ever had ANYTHING to say about them.
I'm rambling again. Someone please chime in with some sound advice. Bruce, you seem to hold the Green critters in high regard. You think that's the way to go?
