There is no driver yet for the USB port. As such, I'm not sure how it's going to work. xt still has the MIDI ports and it sends and receives MIDI messages over them; however it is not compatible with SoundDiver and ther are no plans for it to be (probably because emagic/Apple will no longer support PCs). My guess would be that Line6 will allow people to use the USB ports for both the editing application (they are designing the software themselves) AND for the digital I/O. However, Line6 is saying that drivers will not be available until 2003.
I don't think the USB port is the reason you should be thinking about geting this thing, although having cheap digital I/O will be nice. Basically, you should go and play one. And don't audition it through headphones, use the actual outputs into monitor speakers if possible. From my tests, it seems that the headphone out uses a cheaper D/A: it sounds terrible, nothing like the actual analog outputs.
