myles, pretty cool. I love doing latin flavored jams too. It just seems easy to come up with lead lines that are a blast to play. I'm not blasting you here on the production but here's a few things I didn't care for. First, just as a personal preference, I don't care for acoustic guitars plugged in direct. I dislike that plinky Ovation sound and I feel they have SO much more character when mic'd. Like I said, that's just a matter of taste. Also it sounds over compressed.
Next, drum machines. I know, I know, not everyone has a drummer just laying around (unless you're in a band and then that's about all they do is lay around
) and when you're working alone or late at night or in an apartment you have no choice. The cymbals are the cheesiest part of them. Oh well.
The tune is mixed pretty well with the components you have going on. The echo at the very end sounds more like a record skip though and is more of a distraction than an effect IMHO. Not slamming you my friend, just observing.

This has a real nice groove, but yeah, it does sound a bit over-compressed. You can hear the pumping & distortion happening. A little less squash, a little more attention to improving the drum sound & some mic-ing of the acoustic & this would be real nice.

i'm glad you took the time to listen and give me some good advice! i hear the plinking acoustic plugged in, and the distortion thing happening. these cuts are just ideas i put on tape, so this will not be the final mix by any means. i'm looking to see if they are marketable , likable i guees....i'm now playing congas to add some life to the drum machine, and i have a sampler with long decaying cymbals i'm going to try using those cymbals. but i would really love a band with real musicians...
i'll be posting more songs, the fx processor i was using with the acoustic guitar had a good deal of compression on the patch too. i'll try shutting the compression off on the guitar. i didn't run the whole mix thru a compressor. and i recorded this on an 8 track reel to reel 1/4" here's another from the same batch.
