Let me keep this simple. What do I need to connect a Behringer EURORACK UB802 Mixer to my laptop? There's no firewire connection. Only USB. I don't want to go straight into the mic plug. Will a SoundTech Lightsnake work or will I need to look at something like the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB-Audio Interface?

You could go with a USB interface or run the mixer into your PC with a PCI card setup.

I used to have a UB1202, which I believe is the model up from the 802.

Neither of them have a USB output (unless you have an updated model or something, but I couldn't find anything online about an 802 with USB), and there's no individual channel outputs.

That means your only option, as it stands, is to plug into your computer's microphone input, which isn't a good idea at all. You'll need a line-level input, which your laptop won't have.

Look into buying an external sound card with a Line-In input. They should connect to your laptop's USB port. You'll also need to buy a Y-cable (stereo to mono, looks like a Y) and plug the mixer's main-out's into the Line-in of the sound card.

Would of helped if I saw laptop in the original post. :D DOH!

You'll need a usb audio interface. There are many to choose from and you can find a decent one that will fit your needs for about $100USD. The lightsnake thing probably won't be much good, it's only one channel and I can't imagine they put high quality converters in the USB plug.

When you get your interface, you can use the Tape In's and Tape Out's to connect the mixer to the Line Level In's and Out's on the interface. Most interfaces come with some form of a popular DAW.

With many of the converters in that price range, you may not even need the mixer.

have fun.

I've got a Behringer Xenyx 802, which is basically the same thing. I looked at the eurorack 802 just the other day and your right, there is not usb. I think what he meant is that his laptop only has usb ports, because previously he said he doesnt have firewire which is not suprising on a laptop.

with it being an analog mixer, theres really no point in buying an expensive usb interface to plug it in. Even though a usb interface is high quality, the source is still just a raw analog signal. The most logical choice would be like what docterfungi said and get a y-adapter and plug it in to ur mic input or to an external sound card. and remember ur signal chain is only as good as its weakest link.

Well, there is a point to buying a USB interface if he wants to bring his raw analog audio into his computer. Going through the mic input on his computer will not sound good. A USB interface is an external sound card with better converters than the onboard soundcard.

peace.

I have used my AudioBuddy through the mic in. I've just made a "Y" adapter with one in and two outs so I can control both mics on one channel and used the snakelight as a usb interface. Sounds better. Chili is right, I want analog sound to the computer. Here's why, it's what I can afford right now. $50 for the mixer, $30 for the interface is still alot less expensive than a mixer with digital outs. Plus saves money for monitors and new mics!
