Hello Folks! I've been a long time lurker in this forum and have so far learned lots from it (this is where I got to decide which gear to buy for my humble DAW). Now it's that time again when I feel the need for additions to my current home recording setup.
Here's the premise: I'm planning to get the Fostex MR8HD digital hard disk multitrack recorder. It's the cheapest device I've seen that can record up to 4 tracks simultaneous, which I need primarily for recording drums. All mixing/post will be done in my computer.
And, um, I'm on a budget.
These are my options:
A. Get Studio Projects B1 + another mic (say, SM57 or ATM25). Make do with the Fostex built-in pre's.
B. Get Studio Projects B1 + the DMP3. Make do with existing substandard 'karaoke' mics (I have lots).
As you can see, I pretty much made up my mind on the B1
My question is: will I benefit more getting the DMP3 or am I better off with more good mics first? Another concern I have is that the Fostex phantom power might be crappy and I end up not being able to use the B1 to its full potential.
Any other options are welcome. Thanks a lot!
