this is a short piece from a 67 minute long instrumental i've been adding tracks to.
it's not finished, there's a lot more to add still...

but it's still kinda cool working with these guys.

Sounds good. The lead is *slightly* buried though.

Another excellent cut Mr. Gonzo-X, I agree that the guitar is a tad low, maybe a bit too wet which puts it back of the mix a bit.

Nice quality sound overall though, considering this is MySpace - a good reflection of a quality sound to begin with.

Looking forward to more of these fabulous snippets of excellence......

:) :D :) :D

I listened to everything.....very cool, no nits to pick that have not been picked in the other posts.....great production values, great work!!!

hey, thanks for checking it out...
yeah, the low level of the lead seems to be a concern with a lot of folks...
i guess it's just an issue of how i like to mix it lower to draw the listener into the middle of it more..
some folks just like that 'in your face' stuff all the time, and i do too, for certain things...
it's probably going to need another guitar part or keys behind it, and then, yeah, it'd need to be mixed louder.
as it is, it's only competing with one bass guitar and some mostly light-attack drum parts, so it doesn't need to be blisteringly loud....

i guess i'm hangin out with the guitar lovin' crowd, eh?!
:D

ok, ok, maybe you guys are right, maybe the wetness of this particular track begs for a bit more volume.
man, that's an easy fix!!

glad you liked it.......
it's a work in progress, so we'll see about posting it again in the future, after some other guys hit on it....

you mentioned the MYSPACE thing...

i uploaded my mp3's as 256kbps encoded...

do they 'broadcast' streaming at the same encoding rate?

or do they tweak it on their end before broadcasting?

Not sure how they handle the actually streaming rate from MySpace. (I don't have an account there).
That 256kbps version is way higher resolution than 128 and it reflects in the quality of the overall sound. Kinda surprised they even allow that high a rate considering the kajillions of songs and the server space required for higher bit-rates..... :)

In my experience, regardless of the bitrate, myspace hurts mixes pretty bad. I notice a big difference. It definitely compresses them a bit much and also gives them a sort of a dull feel, you almost have to mix for myspace if you want to use it. Just listen to your mp3 with myspaces back to back and you'll hear it. Anyway, been listening to the song. Insteresting stuff. Love the slap bass in there. It may be a bit loud though, buries the lead frequency a bit, or just bring up the lead guitar. Anyway, playing is spot on and the song has a great "quest" vibe to it. Cheers

i think when you download the tunes off of myspace, you get a copy of the original upload...
even the 320 encoded sounds better to me than the 256.....

SnakeDog5050
yeah, i agree, the streaming is probably a bit lame, i'd much rather people downloaded to listen, and that way they score free tunes anyway!

i guess i went easy on the levels on the lead, just cuz i wanted it to be more of a melodic thing than a stand out thing...
my guess is, when these guys finish getting all collaborators on board, the dynamics of the final mix will completely change...

thanks for checking it out...
