Annoying Reaper Problem

I'm trying to paste a section of music from one song into another.
All works OK, but when I open the new file, after moving to a new drive, the pasted section is missing.
I've tried saving the new song with a different name, etc., but nothing seems to work.

I would think the issue is the fact that the pasted section is being shared when still in the same directory.
But after moving, it's no longer available.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Have you tried putting this new project in it's own folder and clicking the "copy all media into project folder"? That should create it's own copy of the shared file, (if that's the real problem).

I do this for all projects. Using excess storage space isn't an issue as I've got a 2TB hard drive that I use for storing the data files. All program and system files are on the 500MB SSD. A 4TB backup drive is connected for duplicate storage. Storage space is so cheap that there's no reason to stress over it.

Thanks - that did work, but not sure why all this happened in the first place?
(Reaper can induce headaches at times.)

One thing that I found was that reverb files that I use (I have copies of the Bricasti M7 files that were released years ago) are also copied to the directory, along with any sound samples or wave files. That makes backups of the entire project very easy, and I can put the whole directory on Google Drive to share. The only problem would be if I use plugins, since those aren't saved the same as sound files.

I use Reaper and have encountered this as well. What TR says is correct as I think you Know now.
