annoying humming in bass

i have an ibanez gsr200 going into a small 15 watt crate bass amp. just tonight i tried playing my bass and an overpowering humming assaulted my ears. this has never happened before. i put in a new battery in the bass, but still the humming continued. i tried different cables, but the humming was still there. can any of you guys help me on this?

Sounds like a wire or component has become disconnected (electrically or physically) and you've lost your ground somewhere. I assume it doesn't happen with just the cable plugged into the amp, so it's in the bass. Since your bass takes a battery, it has active electronics, and the problem could be anywhere in there.

You can stick your finger in there and touch different wires and components while it's humming to see if anything changes it, touch the strings and pickups, and look to see if anything is obviously loose or unsoldered.

If not, time to take it in for diagnosis and repair.
