A work interrupted, yet a work in progress.;)

Anitras Dance

All mix comments appreciated. This was one hard track to pull off, I dont know if I have yet!:D

Wow, fantastic. I love listening to your stuff.

But I do have two comments. When cellos(?) are introduced, I hear a click at the beginning. An example is at 1:23. Very slight, it might be the encoding at soundclick.

I'm not crazy about the synth patch that sort of follows the lead melody. It comes in during the intro and lies just underneath throughout the song. But that's just my uncultured opinion.

Would you share what it took to put this together? It's so cool.

Thanks,

Thanks for the comments Chili.

part of the patch. I can choose another patch, try to eq it out or leave it. Yeah, it kind of sounds like a mistake, but its not.

I dunno about it either.:D:D It may stay, it may go. Its frantic, but its muddy. There are 4 patches of frantic synths in this. Some are probably just adding mud.

"Put together" is an apt term.:D I basically assembled this from the score, re-orchestrated it, and made many different arrangements of it. There are 40 violins on this.:eek: That was the easy part, I just pressed record then edited all the noise. The hard part was getting the tempo changes. Also, its very dense yet very exposed, and the string parts are tricky. The arco (bowed) cello parts are half synth and half me playing violin in the low register, I just blended them together.

Again, I really appreciate the comments. I am not sure what I will do with the frantic synths yet, they miight end up on the cutting room floor. Or may not.:D

Sounds good so far. he 'cello fraud works well - clever fellow.
The frantic sounds fine when it's further becak or within the denser packed parts. It sometimes, when it comes too far forward, sounds like intro or solo from MiSex's Computer Games though.
It's a great piece to work with & has a really catchy melody so ought to be popular.
Keep going - I enjoy your progressions.

I used to live a few miles from Griegs home when I lived in Bergen.
I allways wondered how many of his masterpieces he wrote up there.

He is our biggest musical contribution to this world IMO.

Your version of this tune is, brilliant DavidK.

Your Violin Playing is just so tight and clean.

I think I`ve said this before, but damn you know how to play them strings.

Soundwise I think it sounds very moderen yet in touch with the classical feel.

Thanks for sharing:)

Once again, some excellent sounds man...fun listen.

Nothing else to say...just pretty cool....:D

I thought I had heard this before and I found the synth-only version in my downloads from a while ago. Pretty spacey :D

The frantic synths are cool - I would keep them :). The intro synth part sounds a bit mid-heavy but the rest of it doesn't seem overly muddy to me. I agree with Ray that when the synths are slightly under the main melody they sound better. At 0:55-1:06 for example they are nicely tucked under - I like the percussive effect there. At 1:07 and 2:24 it's a cool effect, being louder, where it joins the plucking sound. With the flowing strings it sounds better to me when percussive. They do mix the modern with the classical so I would consider keeping them.

Good mix overall, the dynamics are cool, and the whole piece flows and ebbs nicely....

Violin playing/sound is excellent - I always look forward to hearing you play. Your keyboard prowess does not go unnoticed....

:D:cool::D:cool:

Thanks for listening Ray, Naka, Ed, Gerry.

I thought I had heard this before

This was interrupted by the Christmas CD, I am trying to go back and pick up the pieces.

This needs a lot more work.:o The frantic stuff is a good idea but not quite working. I think it needs less of it, but in more key places. I am basically doubling the tune with it, and I think I am going to only do it in a few places. I also dont like the patches. I did the frantic stuff in fruity loops almost as an experiment and it literally did the frantic stuff on its own.:D Its muddy.

Its a tough track to pull off, hopefully another round of revisions will help.:D

Brilliant as usual!

I think though there is some room for improving the mix. There is a somewhat two-dimensionality to it. It's hard for me to explain - it has some depth, but not, at the same time. Hmmmm, I know that doesn't even make sense. Have you ever thought about putting one of your creations up for a mix contest? That would be BEYOND cool. :D

That makes a LOT of sense. The crazy stuff needs to be 3 D, floating around the core string sounds of the piece. I just dont know how to do it.:D I think I will try some different sounds first. Thanks for commenting.:)

There are probably 100+ tracks in this.:rolleyes::confused::D

I have it submixed to 50 or 60:

40 violins
2 triangles
15 pizz tracks
flute
oboe
woodwind
bassoon
4 cello patches
2 bell pads
2 general string patches
5 frantic synths
4 bass patches
5 ambient patches
Some other stuff I cant even think of:confused: I wouldnt know how to even begin to prepare it. Nonetheless, I shall consider it.
