Some more info, in the form of an eBay listing for a Fostex 4030:

He lists the Fostex models it works with. I suspect it's pretty much* accurate, though one should always make allowances for the zeal of someone who badly wants to sell something.

*"Pretty much" -- his reference to the "A20" and "A80" models should probably read "20" and "80," respectively; there was no A20 or A80, and I don't think the A2 or A8 had this capability.
