I'm new to this, sooo....

Besides just using a mike to record onto the computer from a cassette, how can I record directly on the computer?

You have some kind of input on your soundcard ( jack/XLR ) plot your mike in it and record. You'll probaply need some kind of pre amp between the microphone and the input.

grindspud, welcome to this site. :)

You should transfer info in to the LINE IN of the soundcard, instead of the MIC IN.

Purchase a 1/8"inch stereo male plug -to- Left AND Right RCA male plug.

You should be able to "hook up" the tapedeck, CD player, TV, etc...
