In the computer based recording age, I still prefer using an Analog board to "fine tune" my mixes. I've been reading up on some d/a a/d converters and what not, but I do have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to.

I'm currently looking to use an eq in the final stages, this one caught my eye.

It has the digital output, but how does that work if I'm using an analog input? Does this work the same way as say ....

If not, would you suggest running the last analog piece in my chain to the converter then into the eq? Or do I totally not get it?

Or just the converter to my burner? and get a normal eq?

Those items couldn't be more different... One is a (really bad) graphic EQ that (IMO) has no business being in anyone's recording rig.

The other is a fairly decent stereo converter set.

If you're already going out to an analog board and you want to tweak the EQ on the 2-buss, I'd suggest just getting a decent used parametric. Orban, DBX, Ashly - Something along those lines.

What are your mixer's outputs currently going to for mixdown - Back to the PC? Stand-alone burner?

Stand alone burner, would a a/d d/a converter still be worth looking into?

If it's a better converter than in the burner.

What I was thinking was last analog piece to a/d convert to digital input on the burner. I have a Pioneer CDR that I picked up probably 4 years ago. Would the A/D convert digital out to digital in on the burner be better overall compared to letting the burner do the converting and using all analog ins/outs?

(apologies to Massive Master! :) )

Seriously, the only way to tell for sure is to try it both ways and pick which one sounds better.

lol I had a feeling someone was going to say that. Thanks for the info guys, I'll add this to the list of things to do.
