I posted a short tune not long ago, using the MSH mics in stereo. This is the same thing but I re-recorded it, and this time, I (hopefully) got a good balance between left & right.

No effects were applied except a limiter on the master buss to bring up the volume a little.

I'm curious what you think of the sound quality (how close to professional-sounding?) and how loud it is compared to other music (not that I care but I find a lot of my other stuff needs to be turned WAY up to even be heard).

Really nice recording. Way better than anything I can do. Will you be adding vocals? It'll be a great song when it's done.

There's a scratching sound around 1:16; mostly in the right channel.

THanks Chili. Yeah, the scratching sound is my dog scratching at my door. Even when he's out of the room he finds some way to get himself on my recordings.

I can't sing, so no vocals. If anyone happens to want to put some vocals on it, that's more than fine with me.

Great sound. Love the tune. Im going to experiment next week recording classic guitar in stereo with my new MXL condensors. Lets see how it goes.

It's a beautiful source sound, Danny. You seem to have gotten the "sweet spot" on that guitar, and you mic'd it very well.

The next step will be noise isolation. As home recordists, we just don't have the luxury (usually) of sound-proofed environments with pristine quiet spaces, so we do the best we can, and the truth is that most of the time, little noises like a dog scratching or a kid screaming will be mostly lost in a full mix anyway.

I've noticed a fair amount of floor noise on your recordings, though, and I think that's where you need to focus next. Until I recently got my AT4050, I just assumed that most of my floor noise was from noisy preamps and the room, but after getting a quiet mic, I realize how huge a difference it makes. In other words, it's not just how the mic SOUNDS, it's how it DOESN'T sound that makes a big difference.

Just screwing around here, but I ran your track through a little plug preset that I've tweaked for my guitar...I tried not to make the track much louder, but it is a little bit louder....volume aside, do you like the sound more, less...or are you indifferent?

Yeah that does sound a little bit louder and a lot clearer. Mind sharing what you did to it?

I'm not sure what the source of my noise is. Computer is out of the room, it might be the mics. That's the only thing I can think of. There is always the audible hiss sound in my recordings. Thanks for taking the time to mess with it.

I just used a the PSP Vintage Warmer plug on it... I cut it a bit in the "mud" region (centered around 315Hz) and boosted it around 10K...which mostly accentuated the hiss, lol.

Anyway, like I said, it's a good source recording...kinda' hard to mess it up. Keep doing whatever you're doing and maybe in the future look for a quieter mic setup.

Even on my crappy speakers this sounds great. It's not as loud as Nickleback, but that's okay.... It's loud enough considering it is not slammed....Those mics, even if they have some noise (which I can't hear on this system), are very clean and clear. Nice playing as always....it's a pleasure to listen to you play.
