Hello again!

I dug this one out of the basement today. This song has a lot of history. I first wrote it when I had just broken up with my first band and started a new one with it's guitarist (2000). I wanted to write something different from what I was known for (which was Death Metal) at the time. I wanted it to be slow and really electronic sounding. After I wrote it, the guitarist tried to sing it and gave it a fake Australian accent. I hated him for that. Not because of the Australian thing... But because he wanted to change it into something phony and I didn't like it. Thankfully, he moved to Oklahoma a couple of months later and I was free from his influence.

I took the song home and recorded it there with my (don't laugh) cassette on cassette recording method. If any of you know what that is, you must know how shitty it sounded. If you don't, I'm sorry, but I don't have time to explain. At the time, I thought it sounded pretty good. I kept it on a tape that I had all of my finished songs on... Unfortunately, I lost that tape. Everything I had ever recorded was lost. But, I did remember how to play the song and I still had the lyrics...

So here it is 2004 and I'm living in Oregon, in between jobs with nothing to do. I decide that I want to re-record it. Little did I know what I was getting myself into. The song ended up taking me 3 months to finish! When it was over, I was so tired of that song that I almost puked whenever I heard it.

Keep in mind that the quality isn't as good as my newer stuff but it's not that bad. I've made worse and I'm sure you all have, too.

So, without further ado... I give you:

TECHNETIUM

Sorry for the very long post.

I never really have much to offer as far as advice goes, just like to hear the songs now and then. :) It sounds good. I think the bass sounds more like a guitar though and not a bass. The song itself is creeped out. Which I'm not complaining about, that is a good thing. :) Keep the rocking up!

Thanks for listening to it. You're right about the Bass, though. Well... Mostly right. I did use a guitar to record it but it had a pitch shift effect on it to drop it down an octave. Out of curiosity, what makes the song "creeped out"? If I had to guess, I'd say it was the vocals. They do come off a little creepy in spots.

Again, thanks.

It's a pretty cool song, if a little long at nearly seven minutes. There is occasionally something really strange going on with the drums timing wise. And other strange percussive songs that don't really seem move the song along, but draw attention to the iffy drums. Overall good song and interesting work between the two main guitars.

That pitch shift effect didn't seem to do it basswise. There's probalby other things you could do to add bass to the song. I'm not trying to pick on your song but that is what stuck out to me from a critiquing aspect. When I said "creeped out" I was not meaning that in a bad way. There is nothing particular that protrudes as "creepy" but the mood of the song is just darker and slower, which to me sounds somewhat "creepy" It might be just me that feels that way, but even if it is just me I dont mind being creeped out :)
