aha, I have another idea! save up to buy the necessary resources (including keyboard and mouse) to connect my laptop to my 19" tv (which sits in my room all day doing nothing) and have that in my monitoring setup

I do this myself to play games on my tv
Just a $20 VGA cable.
Sound doesn't run through it that way though.

yeah Im gunna use a HDMI cable - sound and audio 
logitech keyboard and mouse and I also need to buy a usb hub because there are 3 ports on my laptop - my interface, midi keyboard and the keyboard and mouse, so I just need one more but Im getting a 4 port hub cos its good to overcompensate they're damn cheap anyway

I'm living in the past with no hdmi on either or my computers.
I recommend the DUB H4 usb hub! I've got the H7 and it rules.
Be sure not to connect any usb 1.1 devices to any 2.0 hubs as it'll bring down the speed of all ports.

well I am kinda on a very tight budget given I just finally paid back my mum for studio monitors and then spent every penny left on some headphones so Im going to be waiting a while to get the money. Actually thats not true, I have about a pounds worth of pennies in my piggy bank
and cheers for that tip, I didnt know they worked like that
