Hoo boy! This whole thread is amazing! If I had not already encountered this stuff from other sources (some of whom are on this BBS, thank you) I would have been very interested in this info. I think it was a useful post by the OP. Lighten up will y'all? And get a sense of humor....................Dinks!!!! :)

What he said!!

Double Dog Dinks!:D

nice thread

it must be illustrative

of some sort of

internet/bbs

sociopathology :D

Okay, I'm ready to smoke the pipe.
I was ranting because sometimes it's frustrating to weed through tons of posts that really didn't need to be made (not just this thread). I don't know that anyone in this thread makes a habit of it, so apologies if you're not guilty of that. I'm gonna go chew on a shoe now.

Dammit, JTC111! Now I don't get to post the clever apology I had planned to offer the OP!:D

I agree with you that superior attitudes, regardless of the poster's credentials, are distasteful. That's why Harvey is such an honored member here; he has probably forgotten more about recording than most of us will ever learn, but instead of lording that fact over us, he simply states his knowledge humbly--unless riled.:)

I NEVER get riled.

Pissed off, yes, but never riled.

And that's where I was coming from but I was making a judgement based on one post and that makes me a bit of a shmuck.

Much love to Harvey and every person like him on this board (and there are quite a few). Sometimes, however, it feels like the assholes outnumber the angels (now there's a great song lyric if i've ever heard one...i'll bet i can sell that line to tom waits for $10).

I think Angels & A'holes would make a great song title. You should write the lyrics and melody.

(Chorus)
But when the final death bell tolls
And men are stripped of rank and roles
The maker will inspect their souls
And sort the Angels and A'holes

Incredible thread guys!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't get it. The guy posted some articles that are certainly useful but the conversation looks like it's going to be dominated by whether or not he correctly lables them as "amazing."

The guy got excited by something but he gets slammed for it as if none of us were ever brand new to this. None of us were born with this knowledge. We all learned it somewhere and if you weren't as excited by it as this guy obviously is, that's a problem within yourself, not a problem that this guy has.

I don't understand what purpose posts like that serve and I wonder how much board space gets taken up by that kind of pettiness.

...and that's my rant for today.

Welcome to Home Recording Forums!

Get used to it, cuz it's the regular tone for this place. There are a few who are really nice and helpful, but also this place has its unfair share of thoughtlessness.

But then the whole world has people who always strive to first find fault, it's not just here.

If you want to thicken your skin go hang out at Harmony Central amps forum for awhile. Makes this place look like a baby changing station..... :p

I dont give a hoot if the guy works for Gibson or not, the articles on mic'ing guitar cabs are right on. Getting great recorded electric guitar sound really is that simple........and that hard. The articles are short and to the point, and manage to cover all the points you need to master to get great home guitar tracks. Those articles are what this place is SUPPOSED to be about.....:o

None of this is helping me find the best mic for recording my band...

Let that be a lesson to us all - be cautious when using the word "amazing" or feel the wrath of the homerecording enthusiasts.

Some kids I teach music production too found these articles concise and useful, thanks garp.

Yes, but did they find them "amazing"?

wow, a guy posts some good info and it turns into a pissin' match.

thanks GarpJarp for taking the time :)

OK, it really was never my intent to turn this thread into a pissing match. I feel responsible, and I apologize. I merely asked garp a question about his association with Gibson in the interest of full disclosure.

It's like some financial 'expert' on CNBC recommending that you buy shares in company x. (By the way, I own 50,000 shares, so if the stock price goes up when you buy it, I stand to make a small fortune). It doesn't necessarily make it bad advice, it just colors it slightly. That's all. Just put on your tinted glasses.

So kudos to Gibson for putting together a nice concise summary of guitar recording techniques. Kudos to garp for pointing them out. It will be interesting in the coming months to see if garp posts any other links to any site other than Gibson's. So far there are none.

And by the way, Harvey, in my mind you are excused from full disclosure. Your reputation and integrity are irreproachable.

No, they found them very useful, concise, and well written...but they didn't mention amazing. The OP's overstatement is truly unforgivable.

OP - Don't be throwing words like that around so recklessly, you end up on the wrong end of a noose.

I was amazed, but I still don't get why the toilets flush backwards in Australia......
