Pretty standard stuff. I wouldn't call it "amazing" even by the longest stretch.

Perhaps not amazing to those of us who've heard it before, but nicely done and comprehensive. Good stuff.

Hey Guitar Zero,

Yep, I'm an editor at Gibson and wanted to periodically share some of our stories that I think you guys might find useful. Hope you enjoy them.

Best,
GarpJarp

I don't get it. The guy posted some articles that are certainly useful but the conversation looks like it's going to be dominated by whether or not he correctly lables them as "amazing."

The guy got excited by something but he gets slammed for it as if none of us were ever brand new to this. None of us were born with this knowledge. We all learned it somewhere and if you weren't as excited by it as this guy obviously is, that's a problem within yourself, not a problem that this guy has.

I don't understand what purpose posts like that serve and I wonder how much board space gets taken up by that kind of pettiness.

...and that's my rant for today.

Perhaps people are taking issue with the fact that he's an editor at Gibson and didn't state that up front. I know it's just information, and not a hard sell of merchandise (though indirectly it certainly is a sell of some sort), but it's a bit disingenuous to call articles "amazing" and present them as though he too was a newb who just discovered them.

Had he said, "Hey guys, I'm an editor at Gibson and just wanted to turn you on to some new articles we've posted" (and left out the word "Amazing") the reaction may have been different...

My 2 cents...

First, nobody "slammed" him. Second, his hyped claim that these articles are "amazing" IS the issue, because that silly claim (when weiged against the hundreds of articles on the web that are just as or more informative than these) red flags his post as possible spam.

So are we to believe that this supposed innocent but eager beginner Googled guitar micing techniques, came up with only this SINGLE article, hungrilly devoured its content, and in his post meal excitement didn't see the value of doing more research before starting this thread so he could tell the world about his "amazing" find? :D In the words of Blue Bear, "gimme a break!"

So because they're not "amazing" to you then they can't be amazing to anyone? By what measure do you determine what's "amazing"? Do we all have to use your rubric?

I can understand if you read the article, determined it was lacking, and offered some meaningful critique. That at least might have been helpful and added to some sort of meaningful dialogue. You imply that you know much more but you don't impart any of that knowledge on the OP or anyone else. Your post was little more than e-masturbation... just more of the same kind of self-important bs with which these kinds of boards are overrun.

Great.

Perhaps because you dinks were arguing semantics, the articles got pulled and I never got a chance to read them.

Thanks.

Phil, they're right there in the first post in this thread.

I don't think I slammed him, but most of that information IS found in a lot of places (including right here), but it's always nice when someone re-compiles it and produces it in an easy-to-read style. That's what I saw here.

"Amazing"? I'm not sure of that, but well worth anybody's reading time.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should point out that I did write some owners manuals for a dew Epiphone guitar amplifiers quite a while ago.

:D

I simply stated that this info is "standard," (meaning known, common) not "lacking" as you disingenuously implied that I said. There are indeed hundreds (if not thousands) of informative articles on this basic recording topic, which is evident by the "meaningful" link I followed up with to support my original post.

So what is it exactly that you have contributed to this thread?

Oh...and BTW, turns out the original post was SPAM afterall. :D

Edit: OK, I misread your last post. You actually didn't disingenuously imply that I said it was lacking. My mistake!

They weren't working when I tried them. They had a 505 error.

See, you should thank me for complaining!:)

They put them back up because I squeaked!;)

Strat hit the nail on the head. Honesty begets credibility.

Okay, I'm ready to smoke the pipe.
I was ranting because sometimes it's frustrating to weed through tons of posts that really didn't need to be made (not just this thread). I don't know that anyone in this thread makes a habit of it, so apologies if you're not guilty of that. I'm gonna go chew on a shoe now.

OK, this thing is AMAZING!!

What is it and where do I get one?:)
