Mike, just out of curiosity, how much did you buy your Cobra for?

I paid $1300 used for mine. That's one of the main reason's I can't justify keeping it if I'm not entirely happy with it. I'm still going to mess with it for a while though before I make a decision.

I was at a metal show last night that one of the guitarist was using a Cobra. He was running a Marshall Jcm cab and a mesa oversized cab off the head and it was slaying a dual rectifier that the other guitarist was playing. I spoke with the guy, he said it took him a while for the amp to grow on him but once he found the right sound he loved it. A tip was to really fool around with the amount of the "deep" knob and the channel Eqs. Either way I guess it is still a completely different sound compared to a 5150 or a dual rec.

Yeah, I am going to give it a while to see what happens. I haven't put the time into it to make a firm decision yet. I know I've heard great sounds from the amp, I'm just not personally getting them. I hope it's not because of my cabinets, because a new 4x12 is out of the question right now. It's especially tough when I'm replacing an amp that I like a lit. The Framus now has to not only be a great sound, it has to be a better sound than the JSX to my ears.

hey, welcome to Club Cobra...

the Cobra Ch3 can be very Rectifier like and Ch2 is much tighter and drier

check sig for Cobra clips

here's one (Cobra Clip) with:

Left - Uber
Right - Cobra Ch 3
Lead - Krank

Not for those adverse to gain... :D

Sonixx- the leads on that one remind me of Necrophagist. Very cool metal tones and playing. I checked out your page, it looks like you own or have access to every amp that I have been wanting to try out. Have you ever compared an Engl Powerball to any of those?
On your Framus, have you noticed a sweet spot for the deep knob? I haven't gotten a lot of cranked volume use yet but I've noticed that with the knob in the higher registers it seems to really cloud the sound.

Wireneck,

thanks for comments. a friend, Rhett, brought over his Uber and we pretty much just hooked it up and went.

I have never played an ENGL of any sort... maybe one day. Rhett that played the clip above had a Blackmore, but I never tried it.

I usually run the deep Knob between 10 and 2oclock... it generally depends on the guitar and speaker I'm using. I can run it a bit deeper with V30s than say with G12T75s.
