I am selling my monster 100 watt ampeg and am looking for a suitcase model,
2 10s or 12s with 40 to 50 watts.
Give me some ideas here guys.
500.00 is all I got and I will buy used.
It will be used for blues and general rock, no metal or thrash.

I like the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, but it only has one 12" speaker. I guarantee it's the one of the loudest 40-watt amps you've ever heard. It has that Fender brightness and sparkly clean tones, plus it will get some nasty distorted tones too. Great for classic rock and blues tones.

The Marshall DSL40 is also a great amp. Sounds pretty much like any good tube Marshall. I've had some bad experiences with Marshall's quality control in the past but that may just have been my bad luck. I think it's probably one of the best buys out there and although I don't own this amp, I've played one enough times to believe it would be excellent for home recording. If you go to Guitar Player Magazines website, I believe they have a review.....I think it's at musicplayer.com

How about these options:

1. Pro Reverb silverface
2. Vibrolux Reverb silverface
3. 59 Bassman reissue?
4. Blues (Deville, Deluxe)

Go for the vintage rig! You know you want it!

Hey, if you can find the Traynor Custom Valve 40...(made by yorkvile) try it out!!! I dont know how much it sells for but I played one about a week ago, and its one of the better sounding amps for its price that ive ever heard...

I plan on buying used, more bang for the buck and I have a good tech. I owned a pro reverb in the past and it may be my first choice. I dont know if I can get one used for 500. I need an amp I can gig with also.

if i was gona buy a used amp, i would check out e-bay. I have seen several tube amps that look like they're gonna go cheap. If i was gonna spend that amount and get a new amp, I would get a pevey bandit. I know alot of people down pevey on this site, but their new "transtube" line of amps sound terrific and thier customer survice is without peer (but their stuff is so rugged it usually dosen't need servicing). I would at least play thru one before I decided on anything else....you might be surprised.

yummy amps...

I'm kind of partial to the Laney amps.

You might try the LC30 or LC50.

Peace <><

It's hard to go wrong with a silverface Twin IMO. You can even have your tech revert it to blackface specs.

It seems everthing on ebay that gets sold is way overpriced by the time the bidding is over. I am watching a few amps on there now and they are slowly climbing out of my range and becoming way overpriced. Also I would never buy an amp I couldnt drive to and try out. One of the amps I am watching is a Twin that is now up to 202.00 with 2 and a half days to go. Will let you know how that one pans out. It is in Albany so that is only about an hours drive.

i have seen some stuff overpriced on e-bay too. like guitars that are used and the bidding is going over the brand new musicians friend price, but i have seen some good deals also. but, when it comes to the fuckin' ridiculus prices that fender is charging for a brand new tube amp....you don't have much choice. Over 1500 bucks for a super reverb.....they are out of their damn minds. You used to could buy them all day long for 150 bucks used. Then everybody starts jumping on the vintage bandwagon and the old 150 buck super reverbs are bringing over 1500 bucks, so, fenders reissues the damn thing (shit I don't blame them...get it while the gettin's good)...so....BOOM....they're getting 1600.00 or so for a 500.00 amp. just my 2 cents

Actually, those reissue Super Reverbs are going for about 1100$. Anyway, it's nothing new with them being pricey amps. I remember when I was in school around 1992, my friend had a 64' or 65' Super Reverb, and when we took it to the shop to get the filter caps replaced, the guitar shop owner offered us 1000$ on the spot for it. The only way you could pick one up for $150 was if you got lucky and found someone who didn't know what he had. Of course, with the proliferation of the internet, it's pretty hard to find people who are that ignorant anymore.

An excellent option if you're tight on dust is the BEL AIR 2-12 combo from Carvin. 50 watt all tube (EL84's!!) that kicks serious ass in tone department as well. Brand new around 550.00.

Check out Tech 21 amps, The best tone arround and Reasonable about 500 for a 100 watt amp that is up to the task no matter what you ask of it.

i was in school in 72 (graduated in '79). I agree that in '92 supers and twins were already high, cause the vintage craze had already started. Im talking about all thru the 70's up to about 1985 you could pick super reverbs up for 150 to 200 bucks in any pawn shop along with 100 watt marshall tube heads. The solid state "fake distortion" craze was in. And just as a side note: you couldn't give away a muscle car back then either. I saw showroom clean low mileage hemi cudas and 428cj mach 1 mustangs go for 1000 bucks or so. Then...all of a sudden..out of nowhere...the "OLD VINTAGE SHIT IS COOL!!" craze hits and the same tired wore out super reverb amp that was $150 is priced at $650. all of a sudden every magizine and newspaper in the country have "i buy gibson and fender guitars and amps...call me" ads in there classified section. Guess what, the ones that ran those ads are cashing in now...and laughing all the way to the bank.....why?....cause NOW, that same tired wore out old super reverb that he gave 100 bucks for may have even quit working but he will STILL get 1000 bucks for it. But hey, at least the dude that pays 1000 bucks for the wore out old ass $150 super reverb can gig and recoup his money quick enough, the one thats fucked is the guy that drops a hundred grand on that hemi cuda that would barely bring $1000 :D
all bullshit aside, I think fender tube amps are the greatest amps around...just a little pricey right now
