I was about to address this as a guitar amp question, but now I'm not sure as we're in the mixing forum. Are you asking about a power amp for a monitor system?
I like my hafler p1500 for monitoring. It won't be enough juice for a live show though - well maybe if it's a smaller gig with really efficient spearkers, like Bagend TA5000's. Good Luck

I mean in a Home studio setting, not for a live gig. I may not even need one, but I just want to know is there certain specs I should look for in case I invest in one? Is there Amplifiers designed primarily for Home Studios or are they pretty much standard? I guess that is more of what my initial question should have been.............
In that price range, I like the Blues Junior or a Classic 30 for clean to blues.
Marshall JCM is kind of a staple for the heavier stuff. Mesa, Bogner, etc. will get you there in style, but you gotta' be ready to fork out the moo-lah.

The Hafler TransNova Amps are passively cooled so there will be no fan noise. It's a really good amp for the money, especially if you can score one on Ebay. As far as most specs, I can't be certain what to look for- I just went with my gut and my ears. I do know the wattage "game" can be misleading. If you look at the specs on your speaker’s efficiency, ONE watt will deliver in the neighborhood of 80-90 dB at one meter. I'm of the opinion that 50 -100 watts in the Home Studio Environment may be enough for what most do.
If you ever get some extra dough or rob a bank or something, check out the Bryston's. This is a case of getting what you pay for...
