So I'm thinking of getting another amp, something small that I can crank a little for recording. I have a Boogie DC-3 and a small Pignose ...checked out the VOX Pathfinder (15W combo) at my local GC... MF have this amp for $79 (I think)...
Plugged in a MIA Strat and twiddled the knobs...and not a bad little amp....

The sound is dark, - can't get that sparkling Fender sound, but it's not a Fender! It's got a simple bass/treble eq and a master vol and O/D boost switch...usable stuff

If you don't yet have an amp, then baby is a great starting point...and the price may be right!

I tried a few other amps and will post follow up reviews...

I love my VOX pathfinder. I have Crate Vintage Club50 tube amp but I hardly use it anymore. I bought VOX solely for band practices, but it ended up performing at some gigs :) These days I'm using mostly line6 POD II to record, but VOX is always nearby.
It has that dark british amp tone and sometimes I hook my Gibson LP Standard through Tech21 SansampGT2 to VOX and it can scream too.

Gotta agree on the Pathfinder 15. Went to buy a guitar, and the sales person plugged me in to one. After trying about 20 guitars through it, I had to go home with that amp. For a solid state amp, it's amazingly aritculate!

Ah yes one big secret. My vox pathfinder is the 10w version. Just blew me away the sound. The distortion is awsome to. It gets big and fat when playing mutted and has incredible bite when attacted open. Here's and example of what Im talking about with this tiny very cool and even cool looking amp.

The strat I used in this amp test is my new 70's reissue and out of curiosity I played it through the tiny cool vox at the guitar shop. It came home too.
Actually its the closest thing ive played through to being valve like.
