American Rock/Pop/Punk Track for feedback

Hi all,

via the Internet I work with a new band from Utah called Hammerhead. I do the keyboards and production - this is our first track together and I'd welcome some feedback on the production and mix.

Please be gentle - this is the first time I've put a track up anywhere for feedback!

Hi beaner, welcome.

This track has way, way, way too much compression. It's flat and lifeless.

Put up a mix without it being squashed to death and let's see where you're at.

probably not helped by this being my first try with a mastering tool (Ozone 5 demo)! Will take a step or two back and review that compression.

Yeah forget "mastering". Let's get the mix right first.

I concur with Greg... let's hear it before you slap a mastering plug in on it. Sounds a bit bright, need a little lower end

Very harsh in the high frequencies. The vocal is hard to hear over the very wet and busy backing track. It sure does sound very "squished", the guitars sound very "thick" and without expression... but there may also be too much instrumentation.
