Hey!

I have just bought a new PC:

AMD Thunderbird 1,2 Ghz, 266 FSB
512MB SDRAM PC 133
Microstar ATX VIA KT33A Socket A (Motherboard)
IBM Deskstar 75GXP 46,1GB 7200RP IDE
16MB Diamond Viper Graphic card
Audiowerk 2 Souncard

I have some questions about my computer.

1. Can i destroy anything on my moterboard if i connect the small colored (green white etc) cords
that controls Power Switch, Reset Switch, Power LED and HDD Led wrong? Is the colored cords always plus and the white minus?

2. What does Power LED mean?

3. Can anything happen with my computer if i change something in BIOS. can i change it back or?

3. When i start up my computer it started to beep continusly. I found out that i had a old keyboard so i replaced it to a newer one
then it stopped. Why does it start to beep and it does not stop either?

4. I have some questions about the menus in BIOS.

Can anyone explain these:

Halt On (All, But Keyboard)?
Boot Up Numlock Status (On, Off)?
OS Select for DRAM > 64MB (Non OS2, OS2)?
AGP Aperture Size?
AGP 4X Mode?
Led in Suspend?

5. When i change something in my BIOS and save and exit, then my PC does restart but my monitor automatically shuts down. when i power it on again it shuts down automatically. why? i have a old 16Mb graphic card on the AGP slot. is it because that?
Everytime i restart my computer the monitor does so when i exit from bios.
And sometimes it starts to beep when i restart my pc
is it something wrong in Bios or? i have to plug out the power cord from the computer to shut down my PC. i cant just use the power
button on the computer cause it dont work. is it bios or graphic card?

Please can anyone help me with these questions

I'll take a stab at a few.

1. Can i destroy anything on my moterboard if i connect the small colored (green white etc) cords

Not likely, but read the manual and the diagrams. It's possible you could burn something out if you wired LED pins to the reset switch and held the switch in for some time. Green is + (strangely enough) on the power LED and Red is + on the HDD, everything else is a momentary contact, ground triggers, so don't sweat it. But, these do vary case to case, board to board - many companies ignore the standards unfortunately.
2. What does Power LED mean?

LED: Light Emitting Diode. Power LED is the the light on the front of your case telling you that your machine is on. If you want more technical explanations of how an LED works, there's lots of info out there.
3. Can anything happen with my computer if i change something in BIOS. can i change it back or?

BIOS: basic input/output system, lots of acronyms. Normally, you set the BIOS settings as your building the machine (or swapping components, upgrading etc.) - particuliar to the hardware that your using. BIOS has gotten better, almost to the point where you can't mess up at all. BUT. If you don't know what the settings mean, bring it to someone who does.

4. I have some questions about the menus in BIOS.

http://www.wimsbios.com/ - read some info on this site. I just searched for it, seems ok. BIOS settings vary from chip manufacturer to motherboard. Often translation makes the meaning in the manuals meaningless... But some of this applies.

It shouldn't do that (of course), a few possibilities, set your AGP to 2X or Auto. When it beeps what is the pattern? These mean something, maybe video, maybe memory etc. Try another video card if you have access to one. It's tough to troubleshoot this type of problem. Even more info - what mother board, memory, cpu etc doesn't often help much. If you are unsure of what you are doing, bring it to a good technician who does, may cost you $35-$70 (or more if it's a hardware problem) but it saves time in the end.

more trouble

Hey!

I still have problems with that my monitor shuts down after i exit BIOS or restart my computer. The Reset button is flashing
after my monitor have shut down. After i shut down my computer and power it up again the monitor will not go on again and its
beeping all the time.

Has this to do with my graphic card or? Should i change the AGP settings in bios?

1. Can anyone explain this. It stood in my motherboard manual:
"Attach a power saving switch to JGS1. When the switch is pressed the system immediately goes into suspend mode"?

2. The contact where i insert the colored cords. In My moterboard manual it says "Short pin 14-15: Onboard Buzzer Enabled".
What is that?

3. Has the options in BIOS "Video BIOS shadow (enable, disable) or "AGP Master 1 WS Write/Read (Enable, Disable) something to
do with the monitor problem?

4. What does this options in BIOS Power management mean: "Video off option (Suspend ->Off)" , "Video Off method (V/H SYNC+Blank)"?

5. Can anyone acces the site "www.msicomputer.com"? I want to download the manual to my motherboard. When i try it says Page not found.

6. Why is it beeping? I bought my computer components: motherboard, memory and processor. I bought everything
from the same shop. The shop personal helped me to attatch the processor and memory. It cant be wrong already.

Please help me with these problems.

problems

Hey!

I talked with the computers store i bought the parts from and they sayed
that it seemed to be wrong wih the motherboard. They recommended that i should download
the latest drivers and BIOS to my motherboard and see if it solves the problem.
If not i should go down to the store and they should have a look at the motherboard.

Where can i download the latest drivers to my MICROSTAR motherboard? Cant find any drivers
at www.msicomputer.com

Regards

Toomas
