hi guys,

nothing special today but one song. As a guest - Ukas on sexaphone. He might have added some more but he was too lazy to do that. So ... just a few notes ... but always.

let me recommend ...

http://www.ambientunes.com

unfortunatelly no new site available :]
looking forward to seeing your critique.

Hey LG - haven't seen you around for a while, although I may have missed you! This is another well produced and mixed song. I like all your submissions and this one is added to my list of favorites. Very nice all around!

:) :D :) :D

Thank you ido1957. Yes, with time it takes me more time to produce anything, neither because I am lazy nor I have no motivation but you know .. I am no longer a student which means I have to drudge to stay alive :/ hehe

lG,
how are you?
That's very tastey sax on a really good backing I like the panned bits too.
Why this isn't playing in some club WAY UP LOUD I don't know.
You're skills are really shining.
Hope the wife is well & that the business is developing steadily.
That's a really nice piano sound.

thanks rayC, I knew I could count on your feedback. What's been up? You are available as always I see.

yeah, the sax is not so bad, live though, hehe. Today if something sounds too good it must be samples. Less and less real playing and real music in today's music.

I am curious why some posts get so many views and replies even if the audio material is average in my opinion, wheras I always get max 5 replies including 3 mine. The same thing with numer of visits - not much. What does the number of visits of a thread depend on? Have you ever think about that rayC?

If I were to mention 5 of my best fans - you and ido1957 would be in first place. :) there's not many of them as you see so you are both more appreciated than anything.

hugs

I think the number of responses probably depends on the time of day you post. Also, the title "ambientunes news" sounds kind of like an ad.
On a different note, I'd like to hear your work but I'm on a work computer that doesn't have sound. I'll check it out when I get home. :)

ambientunes new song

easlern - you may be right but you never know what the time is best for who. and as for the title - you may be also right. does it really look like an ad? damn me! ;)

also

a lot of people just aren't into ambient. I am. I just didn't really have anything constructive to add.

And this is not an ad, or spam, or whatever, but I listen a lot to an internet radio station that has different channels for different kinds of music, one of them being ambient. It's called radioio ambient. You can sign up and pay and listen commercial-free, or just listen without signing up and hear commercials. They've got about a dozen or so different channels. My favorites are ambient, 70's, jazz, and classical.

The ambient is programmed in sets that range in mood, so sometimes it's very reggae-flavored for a while, then it turns to trance-type stuff, or Kraftwerk-like, Jean Michelle-Jarre, etc.

Like I said, not spam, I'm not connected in any way, but so few people seem to like ambient (or at least admit to it) that I thought I'd give you a heads up.

radioio.com

I'll try to give you more of a critique shortly.

You had me in the first 20 seconds. I like the different feel, it's not what I'm accustomed to in techno. Smooth jazz meets trance. It has the feel like the Dave Matthews Band if they did more raves and dropped more acid :D. That's not a jab, it's a compliment since they are good groovers and this has a good groove.

The sax works very well, and the piano work is very inspired. Nice job! Orchestration near the end really helped to raise the mood a notch too.

The production is tops, everything sits well in the mix. It's probably a really good example of doing everything right.

I often wonder what gets attention in the clinic. The thread title probably has a lot to do with it, and some randomness based on when your thread is at the top and the most visitors for that day are logged in ready/eager to listen.

What do you do for drums? If these are samples or electronic they very good samples/electronics. I was using a mid-level Roland electronic kit and was impressed with how good they sounded, but they never sounded THIS good.

The end was disappointing - because it ended! :(

Easily the best listen of the day. Thanks for sharing it.

As for the number of people keen on ambient - maybe, we would need a pol to see who for what genre is.
To be honest I am not so ambient freak as it may seem. I don't listen to jmjaare at all but I love enigmas albums I listen to reguraly. Apart from that I listen to a lot of jazz - rippingtons, yeallow jackets, and on the other hand I am a fan of linkin park and bad raligion.
Thanks for recommendation but my internet connection is too weak to handle the radio during my office time - unfortunatelly I am not the only one who uses the connection so I have to take others into consideration. We've got just 1mbit down and only 256kbit up.
I'll give it a try when others go home - but it is always to late at night :/

thank you for so good comments. I appreciate it you like it. As for the drums I used RMX samples. they sound not bad but it takes time to sit them in mix as they are one-track stereo samples so you get everything packed in one track - kick, snare, etc. sometimes it's difficult to sit them in mix so the kick was hearable and the snare wouldn't take too much space.
Sorry for disappointing you with the ending. Next time I will try to be more creative and take the plot at least 20min. ;)

kind regards

almost missed out on this one. yes, nice playing overall, this music reminds me of some stuff candy dulfer did, jazz seems to be hiding just behind the corner ;-)

awesome moment : around 01.00 the sax goes from single panned center to doubled panned left-right and then back! i like that kind of stuff a lot.

i think you have good productional skills : you really know how to make a piece of music sound spacious clear and transparant. and that is also my critique : everything sounds a bit clean, especialy in the sax i miss some rawness. kwow what i mean?

looking out for the next one.

:D

Wow, this is really great. I for one will be keeping an ear out for your stuff in the future. My comments are probably more opinion than anything...

Intro - I'd love to see you start out with some sort of pad or something to build some anticipation for the groove to start. Give people a second of time to get the volume up on your song. :) My media player actually chops off a hair of the beginning if I'm not careful.

Throughout the song, there's some instrument that has a REALLY high frequency component in it... for some reason, it really bugs me, because that's mainly what I hear from that instrument, and it's like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. That may just be my opinion, though.

What synths do you use, particularly for the strings and piano? Both sound great.

I don't know if you were intending this, but the sax drops out of focus after about halfway through the song. I could see it being left out for a bit, but I'd love to have it back toward the end. Maybe your friend just had to leave. :)

There's a lot going on around the 3 min. mark and in a couple of other places during the song. It sounds good, but I'd encourage you to see if you can make the instruments kind of duel back and forth - bring up specific riffs so that each instrument kind of sticks its head out for a phrase, and then ducks back behind the others. Pick out your favorite riffs, and create space for them. Right now, they're just a hair too much on top of each other.

All in all, though, amazing! Drums sound great. Mixing is excellent. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if I had heard this on a CD or in a store as opposed to on HR.com.

Keep them coming!

Yeah, this is a really good piece of music. The sax is real nice. Whether you want to call it ambient or smooth jazz, it's some really great stuff. ;)

Guys,

What a great feedback I've got here. I really appreciate it guys. Thank you very much!

as for the sax, all ideas are by Ukas - the man who recorded it. the sax catches all atenttion - ukas came to me for 2 hours, blew the pipe for while and now everything turns around him - no I am jelous though ;), just kidding.

johnny5dm
The piano is the ivory and the strings are atmosphere and the collosus - not a big deal.

I probably know what you mean with dueling of the instruments but I don't know if I am skilled enough to do this, I will try thoug.

what do you mean by "some instrument that has a REALLY high frequency component "? does it come in in the refrain or in any particular time? could you give me the time and I see what it may be?

You are right of course with the sax - he had to leave, I had enough his rumbling though ;). The sax should be coming back in the end. I will try to made ukas record some more and add it in the ending ... if you like his sax so much ... more than my piano, strings, etc. playing ;).

RayC
Go lG sounds a bit like run forest, run, don't you think? ;)
Should I take up running? yeah, me and my protruding abdomen ... :)

Starts at 1:15, goes through 1:48, back in at 2:22, out at 3:29... think that's it. It bugs me less today, but it's still there. :)

Hey now... you can't feature someone and then complain that we didn't rave enough about you. ;) Don't worry, you're so far above where I am right now... wish I could play piano like that! And arrange like that...

johnny5dm - I still can't figure out what it is. I tried to track this track down but I failed :(

I wasn't complaining. I was just kidding and I am sure you felt what I meant. ;) I am really not looking for neither attention nor applause for myself ... what counts is the music I make alone or with other people. That's why I am always featuring them as they are importent part of the creation -neither more nor less than me though. The most importent for me is that the people like the song, that the result is worth the input. I am sure you know what I mean. :)

I missed when you posted this earlier. :)

Dude, your composition and arrangements are just like wow! Don't worry about the number of replies and views on the post. It depends on two things primarily: 1) The genre, and 2) Time of posting. For genre, if you're not heavy metal or some other metal, you'll generally get less replies 'coz most people seems to posting that lately. And for time, it depends on when a new visitor arrives and posts 10 threads of their music. Or maybe others keep bumping their thread. I don't get many replies but I'm sure some people listen and just don't have anything to add. There's few that always reply and it has helped me get my sound much better.

Anyhoo, back to this, the sax is very very very nice. It builds the mood very nicely. The piano and the strings and drums are all very well done.
