hello guys,

I received some good feedback on "key the fifth" so I thought I would share the latest update. maybe some of you would like to have it. if I am wrong, sorry for bothering.

what updated:
1) drums - snare more tight doesn't take so much space in the mix, kick - better hearable
2) bass line - more tight, better hearable on low-quality speakrs
3) guitars - lowered the overall volume of solo guitar
4) piano - the overall sound quality, sitting in the mix

Ukas says the solo guitar at the beginning is too loud. would you take a look at it closer and share your views about that?

thanks a lot

lG,
The volume of the solo is fine. you know I'm not a fan of the tone for the chorded parts but it works pretty well for lead lines.
I rerally like the textural diff between the guitar & the rest.
I reckon the bass could still use a little tweak of 1 - 2 dB's at 3Khz.
The build up is good & the swirls from the hammond really give this a lift.
This grows from a chill tune to quite a bit of R.O.C.K. by the end.
nice work & good tweaking too.

This is so awesome. I'd love to do a song like this one day.

The music is really cool. The playing is simply top notch. The composition of the music and the arrangement is simply very very top notch.

The imagination required to write something like is just wow!

:)

Wouldn't change anything. :)

Wicked piece! I think the solo guitar could even come down a tad more, just a tad. The drums sound gerat dimensionally, but could use significangtly more oomph in the bottom end, and maybe just a bit of the sizzle in the closed hat and the snare overring could come out, edge down 8KHz on the drums, and nudge from 60HZ through 125Hz up..

The bass can be felt, but has no edge or presence; which is too bad, because it would provide excellent counterpoint to some of the melody if it had more definition...

The organ sound is a little overbearing, at least at that level. If it were me; I'd be nudging it back a tad in the mix too...

Man, wish I could play guitar like that. the song itself is fabulous, and the musicianship displayed is outstanding. Oh, but the end needs to ring a LOT longer, it was so abrupt, let it slide gently, painfully, into the dark night... let the statement sit there and echo.....

Where can I get more of your stuff? :) My only comment for now is about the timbales at 0:35 ... come on, you can do better than that! The rest of the song sounds so professional, and then comes in the casio keyboard... the only real latin element in the whole thing. At least add some reverb or something to liven those up! I also think that you could have some fun with using a little more portamento on the analog synth in the background early in the song. Not a lot, maybe just on a couple of transitions. Just for kicks. :)

Still amazing... is that all still programmed drum loops? Dang... wish I could get real drums to sound anything close to that. T

I agree with everything that has been posted so far. So, all I would like to say is that this is an excellent bit of playing and the mix sounds pretty good to me. That guitar tone is very nice. The keyboards carry this lifting and moving throughout the piece.

Would enjoy hearing more of this Lukgier - when you are not too busy.... :D

Wow, I've slept over so many replies ... sorry guys

thank you a lot for so good words. I really appreciated.

When there were 2 days with no replies I decided not to check this thread again until a couple of days ago, when I found your replies .. and there were so many of them ... really sorry for leaving you without showing my interest for so long. After 2 days I just lost hope that anybody would write anything .. turned out I was wrong.

Because you've found the time to reply so I"ve decided to tell you more about this song. Maybe somebody of you would be interested.

I've found recently, that the first tracks were recorded in 2002. Actually, most of tracks were recorded in 2002 and they were recorded in 16bit and 48khz because at that time my PC was not as well equiped as it is now.
In October 2002 the song was actually finished and forgotten for about 2 years. One day in 2004 me and Kosma were jamming in my student room plying some shit when I opened the song. Kosma figured some guitar tracks very quickly. We had no equipement but his electric guitar and the guitar rig. He chose a preset, turned the knobs a bit and said that we can kick it off. We recorded that day all his tracks.

It took me 2 years to get the song sound like this.
In this time I changed the drums tracks and the bass line and added the piano track. All the other tracks ( vst instruments) were in audio format so I couldn't change anything and I didn't even want to)

So after 2 years of remixes I've got this.
If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't get so far - I wouldn't have neither so much motivation nor idea what to improve.

Of course your last replies were treated seriously as always.
I tried to improve the things you were writing about.

Here's what I've updated:

johnny5dm - I totaly agree with you. that timbales were a weak part of the song and as you noticed correctly, the only latin thing in the whole song. I tried to exchange it with some other samples but in the end I've decided to cut it off and leave without anything. what d you think ?
I can't change the portamento as the tracks are in audio format :/

Llarion - the drums samples are just on 2 stereo tracks :/ so any interruption into the tracks involves everything. I tried to tweak the bottom line as you said. And I've done the fade out longer - as long as the audio files let me.

rayc, Llarion - I did the tweak with the bass at 3khz. has it got more presence now?

Ok. That would be it. Please download the update and judge it obiectively. I've added some new tracks. I hope you will like it :)

regards
lG

Wow, wow and wow.... Fabulous piece of music. This is even nicer than the first time, which was great too. I don't know which parts I like the most they are all great. The keyboard playing is great and the guitars are equally great.
The mix is good - not much bass on my PC speakers but you know it's there and I don't miss it..... Great job LG.....
