Hi, first post here, so am in the dumbass section with a likely a dumbass question:
I have a Zoom MRS1044.. its ok, does the job, but its phantom power sux ass.. so I use a behringer board (MX802A) as my pre input for my vocals and guitar.. but I am using the headphone out to get back to the Zoom, is that right, I think I should be using the mains out? and if so, how do I tie the left and right mains into the single quarter inch input for the input section of the MRS 1044?

Basically am looking for some guidance on my setup.. I use a AT3035 Condenser, which can pick up a fart a mile away.. especially when using the behringer phantom power.. that said, have a feeling I am not maximizing the potential of the behringer by using the headphone out as the input into the recording device.. any thoughts fellow wiser than I home recordists?

Regards,
Joy

There's something called an insert cable. It looks like this

They aren't too expensive and should get the job done. Just make sure you get a high-quality one.

I have never heard of using the headphones out for anything other than headphones.

Your post confuses me, you say you use the phone jack to go back to the Zoom, are you looping this?

Did the Behringer come with a manual? if so read it.

Headphone out, that is where the headphones plug in. Main out, that is where the main signal comes out.

I think he means he is using the following chain: Mic>Behringer (preamp)>Zoom

OK, forget the insert cable, not what is needed.

You plug the mic into the Behringer, connect the main out from either the left or the right to a Zoom line input. It does not matter which you use as they both have the same signal when the channel pan control is in the centre.

If you want to use 2 mics, connect the left main to one zoom line input and the right main to another. Pan one mic channel full to the left and the other mic channel full to the right, the mics will go to separate line inputs on the zoom.

Cheers
Alan.

thanks to those who replied..

Thanks you guys.. got it.. the insert cable I had already, after looking at it, I realized I was being dumb as a nail.. :o

Now to figure out how to get levels right etc... final question and likely in the wrong thread.. but.. AT3035, would it be damaged if I took it to record rehearsals.. seems semi large diaphragm condenser like that might not deal well with the volume levels etc.. given that it is so very sensitive in my home environment (picks up a lot of ambient noise)...

Thanks again Alan and others...

Mics don't generally get "damaged" from being in loud environments. It should be fine as long as you have the gain down so you don't overload your preamp.
