am i screwed?

here's the situation. there were some computer glitches and i was quite far along with a project so i backed it all up on about 12 CDRs. i saved the files as cwbs in every case and burnt them at 12X. after the computer was worked out, windows reinstalled, only ONE disc of all of them is even recognized to have any data on it by the computer and playable in sonar. all others are seen as blank discs, which brings us to my question.. am i screwed? thanks

Wow!!! that's bad news to hear, fella... anyway, what did you use for burning the CDs? Was it Nero ? Once I got about the same problem (disc is in good condition, but not readable by Windows Explorer), then I open Nero again, and the disc is recognized as "haven't been closed" or something... I don't remember much, but using the wizard, then Nero burn something to the disc in addition (was is lead in / out or something?) then the CD is recognized fine ever after... try it out...

i believe it was roxio, but the person who maintains the computer when i'm not working on it likes to change small details like that without me knowing.. i'll give something of the sort a try.. thanks!

I'm using Nero, so please bear with me... First, I put the undetected disc into the CD-RW drive. Start Nero, and select Recorder --> Disc Info. The CD in the drive spins for a while, and display info about the disc as "the disc contains unfinished something..." (I don't remember exactly). And it prompted me steps to choose (continue with existing mode, create "something" to finish it, etc...) I'm not sure, but I choosed some kind of "Well... then finish it !!!" That's it... I don't know how it goes in Roxio...

ok.. so i opened the CD in roxio and got the disc info. At first when i put this CD in the E drive, it was deemed unreadable by windows. Several days later, it now just sits in the drive idly. Upon opening the disc info, i found that there were two sessions, and one track written and that writeability:recordable. i thought i may need to finalize the disc but that's not an option.. when i click read track, it asks to save it as an ISO file. not quite sure what's going on here or how to end this session so it will just be read by cakewalk.. anyone have any further ideas? maybe install a different burning program such as the one james used?? thanks much

Have you tried the CDs in another CD-ROM?

That happened to me with my old CD-burner. My system wouldn't recognize the CD, but it worked fine at work.

Try using Nero, just like James said. Something very similar happened to me, and Nero could get the data back.

ok gents, i've loaded up nero and selected medium-info for the disc and was not prompted to write on or finalize anything. the disc info said this much: CD ROM--session 1-404MB--track 1 0:02:00-45:57:02 (404MB) data mode 1

that's as far as it gets i'm going to get that CD roller program next.. if anyone happens to be paying attention, i'll be at this all day again and again, amen thanks for the help so far

Have you tried selecting Multisession in Nero, and see if you can add another file?

i burned a copy with nero and this one was closed.. still no dice 404MB of info closed CD or not and it still won't open..

I'm just wondering if you selected Multisession when you first burned the disk in Roxio (not sure if you can do that , I'm only familiar with Nero). If you did, then you would be able to record another session, and this may be why Windows can' t read the disks as they ain't been finalized yet

Happened to me once with roxio for a data CD. It would just spin and be empty when I clicked on it. I just went back into Roxio and closed the session which didn't close for some strange reason adn the disc has been perfect ever since. Good Luck -BJ
