Hi Guys.

This is my first posting here. I have been reading this site for over a year now and I have learned quite a bit. I am building my home studio slowly. Right now I am recording all my music through a BOSS BR8. It's time to do my final mixdowns so I went out and bought CakeWalk Home Studio 2002. I also purchased a EDIROL USB digital audio interface. I have installed both of them on my brand new HP Pavilion 7940.

So, I am going out of my BOSS BR8 "digital out" to the EDIROL "dogital in" and from the EDIROL "USB out" to my computers "USB in".

In Cakewalk I am choosing to start a new project. And I choose "Normal" from the list. Then I Choose the imputs from my USB for track 1 and 2. I am recording left on 1 and right on 2.

Well, heres the problem. When I play my music back it sounds like CRAP. I have the imput monitoring turned off. But still sounds like someone is in the backround playing the ass cheeks. Stuttering and kinda choppy. I try changing the Bit depth to 24, but then Cakewalk wont record anything. As a matter of fact, almost everything Cakewalk suggests to fix the crackle or stutter does that. I am really confused as to what to do. I dont think it is the sound card because it is a pretty new computer.

Can anyone help me?

Well, there's your problem. You can't run a digital into a dogital :)

Just kidding. I'm not at all familiar with either the Boss or USB audio interfaces. Hopefully someone will come along who can help.

Sorry about the typo.. Seriously though...... Can anyone help me on this?

Minimize your signal path!!!!!!!! Send the signal from the BR8 directly into the computer. Forget about sending it USB......Your adding an extra piece of gear that you do not need. Sell the USB device and buy a sound card with a digital in.

Does the sampling rate of the BR-8 match that of the Edirol's digital in?

HMMMMM

I am not familiar with your gear but if it is a skipping type of sound you might check you sync settings / clock settings. I had a problem with that using audio sources with cakewalk.

The other thing could be your signal level if it is too high for cakewalk it will pop/crackle. You may try mixing lower.

Go to Roland's web site and download their conversion software. This will allow you to put your zip disc into your computer (you obviously need the drive) and convert from Roland/Boss's compressed audio format into wave. You don't loose a generation in transfering audio and its very easy to use. Then import the audio a track at a time into cakewalk. FREE software update from Roland!!! This will be the last time Roland will ever give something away. It works well.

Right on. As an interface, USB blows more ass than almost anything previously conceived. I'm with Gargamel.
