Am I losing signal quality?

This is just an easy yes or no...
In my rack I'm connecting my preamp (balanced XLR out) directly to my computer interface (1/4")with a very short XLR to 1/4" unbalanced cable. Am i losing signal quality by connecting it with an XLR to 1/4" cable instead of using an XLR to XLR cable with an impedance adapter?

You're losing some signal level connecting a balanced output with an unbalanced cable.... sound quality, probably not, unless there's induced noise in the unbalanced line.

You can get XLR to 1/4 balanced adaptors for about $3 on EBay. When in doubt, they come in handy.
