Here's a tune I'm working on that I previously submitted to the Songwriting forum: www.toddejones.com/songs/The Trap.mp3.

I pretty psyched about the rough mix sound, but I'd love some honest feedback about how to make the final mix better.

thanx

You need to edit your link. :D

Song is pretty cool. I think you've mixed the sounds very well. It's a nice, clean mix. Fun listen also...I like the drums, as I can hear everything going on. Bass seems to have a good place to sit, and the key parts sound good. Don't know if they could come up a db or 2 without changing what you have in mind for the tune. They seem quiet, but that might be what you want. Guitars seem mixed well, and have a good sound. I got nothing I can help you with really, but think it's sounding pretty good. Really liked the drum sound....seems very clean.
And the ending...it's a long fade out, but still cuts off abruptly. I think you should cut it right after you finish a sentence, like about 4 seconds sooner, as it would end a little cleaner.

Cool tune man.

Yep, I needed to fix the link. Damn Treo phone.

Here it is:

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the fade was a result of a quick dump down from Digital Performer. I had the master fader doing the master fade out and had to reassign outputs so that... well, yeah, I need to redo the fade.

As for the piano, well it is the only remaining original track, which has since been layered with the pieces you now hear. I first figured this would be a keys/bass/drums piece with vox on top, but I like the guitar stuff I was able to conjure, so the piano fell out of the mix a bit.

I'm still hearing unevenness of some of the vocals going from part to part, thanks largely to having up to 6 passes of unison vox in places. That'll get wrangled in the remix, plus the disharmony on the word "friend" in the second verse.

Very cool

Listening on work multimedia speakers so I can't comment on the mix.

I like this tune.

I hear a Frank Zappa influence combined with nice pop hooks and strong vocals. Bass line is very cool. Good performance!

Thanks Bart!

I welcome feedback from folks with monsterous speakers as well.

This rough mix was done on Audix 1A speakers, with some listens through a boombox with an aux in and on a set of nice Yorkville NX55p PA speakers to see how the bottom end rattles.

But it was fun to switch around and see how it sounded on the various platforms.
