hey all,
i am new to this but this is bugging me,

at the moment my 'studio' is made up of a m-box 2 mini, this only has one XLR/jack channel and one jack channel, i am running pro tools 8 le and wanted to upgrade the amount of inputs i have. do i need to buy digidesign or m audio? can i use other hardware or audio interfaces other than digidesign. is it best to get other software?

thanks all

With PT8 you are stuck with their hardware. PT9 was just announced and the big news is that it will use any Core Audio or ASIO hardware.

ok so if i got cubase then i could just use a normal interface with mixer???

What do you have cubase Le?
Take a look at reaper .... it's a free download.

i have pro toold 8 le but feel too limited with the amount of ins i have so want to get cubase so i can have more inputs without spening stupid amounts of money

You are talking about two different things that are not necessarily interdependent.

I use Pro Tools 8 LE with a 003 and could have 18 inputs by using some digital add-ons.

So, Pro Tools 8 LE does not realistically limit how many inputs you can have.

If you have invested the time needed to learn Pro Tools, and if it does what you need it to do, why would you want to start over again with another piece of software?

If you want to stay with Pro Tools 8 LE, you could look for a used larger MBox or a 003.

You could upgrade to Pro Tools 9 for $299.00, and then buy almost any other interface you wanted.

You could wait a few weeks and buy either a new larger MBox or 003 that comes with Pro Tools 9.

Or you could buy Cubase with a two-input interface and stay in the same whole you are currently in. Or you could buy Cubase and a larger interface.

So, what you really need to do is some research in order to learn about the limits that are imposed (or not imposed) by both software and hardware.

You are going to need to buy something new, but it would be really stupid to go out and buy something without figuring out what you actually need first...

ok, brillant, thanks alot, would like to stay with pro tools, does m audio work with pro tools 8 le or does it just work with m powered??

There is a 003 for sale in the free add forum here along with it's controller ~ looks sweet. ;)

It works with m-powered.

You seem to be missing half of what is posted in the thread.

IF you stay with protoolsLE 8, you will have to get one of the bigger Mboxes or the 003 interface.

If you upgrade to protools LE 9, you can use any interface you want.

Both of these options will be cheaper than buying Cubase and an interface.

thanks all for your help, think staying with pro tools is the way to go, thanks for simplifying it for me!!!
