Hey it's good to hear something from you.

Decent song and a decent sound. I liked the use of keyboards on the chrous. Some cool sounding harmonies - the section at 1:51 sounded particularly smooth. Good guitar transition at :43. What's the bass thing at the end? Did you do the whole thing on your own?

A pitch problem or two on the vocals. A little clip at 1:08.

not a bad sound...kind of "live"...

you could play with some more compression/reverb maybe..

No, Not Enough...

I looped it and listened about 500 times. Took almost 20 minutes.

This is great. Notice, I used the often OVERused adjective, "Great." I didn't say "diverse" or "interesting" or "different" or any of those words that crop up when you're describing a tune just doesn't quite grab you...

To me, this is GREAT!

Go be great, and finish the rest of this great start.

Gratefully yours (get it?),

pretty nice sound..

I thought the bass was strange.. Not so much the sound, but the way it was played, and the notes used.. especially in the chorus.. IMHOP, I think the bass playing is almost too busy at times.. Pretty nice harmonies.. Very minor pitch things, but I'm reachin' here.. The main thing I don't like is the bass.. Other than that, it sounds good!

I really like this song Eric. Good writing and cool voice. I'd almost like to hear a nice organ solo or something in there. And overall it was a little flat to me, maybe lacks just a little bit of life. Of course no mixing critique from me, I wouldn't even know what to say. But thumbs up from me overall :D

Thanks for checking out my tunes too...

I was monitoring or a crappy stereo but it sounded REALLY good.....i wanted to hear a little more drums...the kick came through ok, but the snare and cymbals kinda got lost........

but really good song and arrangement.....

Hey Erich....

....Nice stuff man. I agree w/ the compression suggestion made above. Very nice bg vocs, and acoustic guit.........

.....cool. G

thanks all for the encouraging feedback! you are all too cool.

flash2ace: yes it's all me. thanks for listening. it's more of me than you ever asked for!

mmm: thanks for the detailed comments. it's been a while since my first post. since then, i've basically been spending most of my home studio time swearing at my computer! frustrating stuff, but i think i finally have it all working pretty smoothly, which is to say that sonar only crashes right in the middle of a project once every other day now :(. everything is me except the drummer. that's a loop. glad you liked the keyboard. i liked it to :).

wes480: thanks for the advice. i'm really just learning how to use compression. reverb scares me. i don't know how to use it well yet. i basically always use the lowest possible setting whenever i do. i suppose the liveness of the sound is because i'm recording in a basement, surrounded by cement walls.

chrisharris: you looped it 500 times? lol. i'm considering just looping the whole thing twice and then i'll have a 4 minute song! thanks for the great feedback... so you mean great as in great looking rather than great personality? thanks for the listen.

sam: apologies for the bass. i have never played a bass and it was just the first thing that rolled off my fingers onto the keyboard.

barometer: thanks for the listen. i agree with the flat comment. you know the lead vocal was a second take and i should have just left that first take alone! it was much more energetic. i always seem to wreck things when i revisit them.

gidge: drums are looped, which is really sad considering that drums are the only instrument that i actually do know how to play. thanks for the encouraging feedback.

guernica: man, coming from a real guitar player the "nice acoustic" comment makes my day. that was my second recorded acoustic guitar performance. i've been forced into playing the instrument cause my friend who plays guitar left the state :(. i'm afraid i have a long way to go on learning to use compression wisely. it's a touchy thing in my experience.

....great song!!!....harmonies are sweet.."current condition /overnight stay"....that is a superb lyric........ok a coupla key issues in the harmonies in the vocal break...but minor...ends kinda sudden....you need something to end with...to me anyway...

again ..this is in need of a few minor changes and then take it to yer local radio station and send me a signed copy..:D

thanks ...
jamal

They sounded very cool. I liked the harmony a lot.

The guitar playing was good too.

I had to listen in Lo-Fi because of my connection so it was lacking some high end but the mix balance sounded good.

This song reminds me of a Ringo Starr single--and I mean that in a positive way. Its got an upbeat and positive vibe to it that is nice to hear in this day and age.

Mix-wise--get those drums up there. I can barely hear them and you're too good to not show off a bit. Overall, there is a big bump around 300-350k that needs to get pulled down. I tried it here while I was listening and things really came into focus. Try it, at least.

PS--our collab is about done. Waiting for the "big guy" Lt. Bob to get back, then we shall post.

Heyyyyyyyy...
...thats right, Erichenryus is gonna lay down drums for that, isnt he....... that IS gonna be a cool one!!

Eric,

that's a pretty song. I truly dig the chorus. Its very catchy.

I cant comment on the mix, but its decent enough. The drums are quite punchy.

Truly good song. I'm on my third listen now.

Very solid tune.

I must say that the end sucks IMHO. Why end a perfectly tight pop tune with a wierd bass drone thang? Cut it cold on the end.:)

As far as the mix, I would maybe be more spartan with the organ during the verse and punch up the full on sound with the chorus to give some more flavor and distinction to the dynamics.

Cool tune. Some small preening and she will shine.

Theron.

Very COOL!

The influences drifted from Kinks to Beatles to Eminem (not necessarily in that order) and even threw in a Barber Shop Quartet Sound around 1:31. YES!

That dissonant guitar lick around 0:45 sold me.

In fact all the guitar sounds were very nice.

The lyrics were well crafted.

The only "weakness" I picked up were the drums and I feel really self-conscious saying that since I've yet to do that well... :)
But I have played with some amazing drummers so I can be picky.

Keep it up!

I think the bass ending thing works in a "White Album" sort of way. But if that's too derivative for you then find something else to do.

Cool tune, vocals harmonies were real nice!
Acoustic guitar sounded great, how did you record it?

Very nice!:D

Pete

Excellent.

You get the Best Opening Line in a Real Pop Song in 2002 award. :D

Song: good good pop song. That chord change at 0.43 fits in with the mind state of the song just right.

Performance: I like the way the singer sings.

Arrangement: the strongest point for me is the acapella bit that comes back into the music. Really good. You can make the song longer if you want, but how? A solo? I don't think you have to be afraid of short songs. I do it all the time. LOL

Mix: I think the acoustic guitars are a bit too upfront in relation to the voice. It's like: I'm in the audience, and right up on the edge of the stage there are these two acoustic guitar players. Fifteen feet behind them, the singer's doing his thing. What do you think about narrowing the gap? Something to try and see how it works maybe. Also, in the acapella bit, the voice taking the bottom part could come up 2 dB or something.

thanks fellas!

jamal buchet: thanks for the radio comment. it's always fun to dream about that stuff! i will rework this thing and post a signed copy at nowhereradio!

Sennheiser: i am a harmony slut. love to do it as much as i can. can you tell? thanks for the comments.

crawdad: you know, it's funny but i was staring at the spectrum in the main outs on sonar watching the bass frequency you were talking about go 'boing boing boing' above all the other levels and thought, 'gee maybe that's not a good thing'. always helps to have another set of ears! i'm grateful that you mentioned it. i have a LOT to learn.

Cyan: Thanks for the triple listen. I think you have a great voice. Funk on!

theron: I gotta be honest. This is really rough. I just hate saying things like 'rough mix' though. Seems so oversaid and so unimportant. The end is really messy and that's not intentional. I simply ran out of words! Thanks for the listen.

drstawl: the sad thing about the drums is that i actually can play drums and bought a v-drumset specifically because i was tired of using loops and tapping out rythms on a keyboard. so what did i do? used a bunch of free loops to get through the song. i will play the drums on the final version. thanks for the guitar comments. i'm just learning to play and it's a lot of fun. i really expected to get at least one comment like 'fire that guitarist, he sucks!'

muzeman: there are actually four guitar tracks in this song. R/L strummed and R/L fingerpicked. i recorded into an AKG C3000B (real close, aimed around the 12th fret) into a joe meek VC3 into an echo Mona card.
