Ok, I'm thinkin' Ill get a C1, music123.com has them with a carrying case, shockmount, and pop filter for $199. Free Shipping. I'll use an sm57 for any screaming vocals that the c1 doesnt sound good on. Thoughts?

ScienceOne,

Just sing/yell louder... lol. j/k

Seriously... there is no way anyone here can tell you what mic YOUR going to like best... so, quit dicking around and goto to your local music stores and test drive all the mics until you find the one YOU like best and buy it.

I would but Mars is belly up and that was is for stores with testable selctions of mics.

I think the C1 and SM57 idea is pretty good. Don't discount the ol 57 either. I've gone through my whole mic collection trying to find the right sound for certain songs. After trying AT 4033, V67and V93, there were times when the 57 sounded by far the best. Those were vocals that were screamers. On the gentle stuff, I like the LD condensers or 4033 (yeah, yeah, yeah...its not really a LD condenser...tell that to your ears just so they will know!) better. So a C1 plus a 57 gives you two very versatile mics, I think. Happy tracking!

Rad, thanks to all of you, I feel a hell of a lot more informed (and less uncertain).
