All About It (Rough Mix)

Generic hip hot beat.

The music overpowers the vocals, they're also very muddy, can't understand them at all.

What you mean by "muddy?" And so would you recommend turning the vocals up/beat down or is there something else i should be doing?

By muddy I mean it sounds muffled and not clear. It gives a very cheap feeling to the vocals.

And yes, start by turning down the music. (You should always try to fix mixing problems by turning stuff down first)

I agree, for this genre that mix is un-usable because of the vocal sound. Muddy is generally lo-mids under 1K. (I'm guessing) that around 300hz should be cut. Also the top end (vocals) is stepped on by other things with alot of treble on them. Start by lowering the instruments as FD stated. BTW, I think I hear a good chorus and song title in there, but you need to clear up the mix so we can tell. Re-mix and Re-post I'd like to hear it again.

Now that you've described the muffled voice, i hear it perfectly. I'm still learning what exactly to listen for. I'll start with turning the instruments down, i'm fairly unfamiliar with equalizer settings and how to use them properly so i tend to avoid them, if you'd be kind enough to post a general tutorial or a link i would GREATLY appreciate it because it seems this is a key part of mixing. I'll try your guidelines and see what i can do from there. Thanks for the feedback and positive comments, i'll get a new version up asap!

Thanks guys appreciate the help, i'm reading up on them forums now andd i'll repost a new mix when i finish.
