Took a look at customizing an Alienware PC as a digital audio (multitracking) machine. It's got:

400-Watt PS

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.4GHz 533MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache

ASUS P4PE - Intel 845PE Pentium 4 Motherboard DDR, w/ Hi-Performance Heatsink/CPU Cooling Fan

512MB Corsair XMS PC-2700 DDR SDRAM

80GB Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 7200RPM 2MB Cache

NVIDIA® GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/64MB 8X AGP (So What)

I know gamers love the crap out of these machines, but is there anybody out there that has experience with Alienware computers for Windows-based PC recording? I know the specs are good, but I am wondering how quiet they are? (e.g., electrical fan & component noise picked up by the CPU, quiet power supply, etc.

Thanks in advance,

I'd skip Alienware and go with www.vprmatrix.com. Their systems are also sold at Best Buy.

Overall they seem to be cheaper and give you more features than the Alienware (Firewire and RAID). THey make use of the Intel 845EBT motherboard, WD HD's, GeForce video, etc...

My gaming friend has an alienware that sucker seems louder than 747 at t/o. The one you described has all the bells andwhistles you need but you can do better for cheaper....right now the alienware stuff is mostly paying for show since it's getting popular. Save the extra cash and get one made specifically for recording...or just add to an already decent priced one.
