I need some help with the alesis studio 32 mixer. Ive been working on the studio 24 for the past year and recently got a 32. ON the 24, when you need to bounce tracks lets say , bouncing tracks 1-5 to track 6. You just send tracks 1-5 to the group faders and then on track 6 hit the grp source button at the top of the mixer.
The 32 does not have this grp source button at the top of the channel fader. I know how to send the tracks to the group faders, but how do i get the grp as the source for track 6 (just an example). The manual isn't making sense to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and happy holidays

Wassup WireNeck, I got your P.M. (Yeah it's me Mr.Q in disguise!!)
Have you tried depressing the "GRP" button located below the fader!?
When using this switch and then panning the track or tracks in question hard right will send the signals to "GRP 2"
The same goes for tracks 1-8. Rather than using the Direct Outs (which sends only 1 signal source at time) tracks can be forwarded to "GRP 1 or 2" by panning hard left for 1 and hard right for 2 .

Peace
Mr.Q

maybe im not making sense, sorry for being confusing. I understand how to get things to the grp section but i want to bounce whats being sent to the grp to a single track. On the 24 if you want a single channel to receive a signal from the grp section you just push the grp source button at the top of the fader. (this makes whatever channel receive from the group section instead of the mic/line or tape ins).
Now on the 32 i can't figure out how to get a channel to receive a signal from the group section like on the 24. Is this making any sense?

Studio 24 manual

i got the manuals out to further illustrate my problem.

Studio 24
To Bounce tracks to a single track (mono)

1.each channel you wish to bounce select tape in jacks as source of channel faders.

2. Assigns channels to grp 1 by pressing grp button.

3. Pan each channel hard left (routes them to grp 1 only)

4. put track 5 into record ready

5. make sure direct out source switch is down on channel 5. (this sends tracks being bounced via grp 1 to direct out jack 5)

studio 32 manual

studio 32
to bounce tracks to a single track

1. for each channel you want to bounce press fader source button so its down (tape in is source)

2. assign channels to grp 1

3. turn each pan knob hard left (selects grp 1 only)

4. place track 5 into record ready (now hears where i get confused) If you have an adat xt press and hold analog input and one of the first four keys so that input 1 will normal to input 5)

how do i know whats normalled to what channel? like say i want to bounce tracks 12, 13, and 14 onto channel 8 what grp do i use?

i read the manual once again. Sorry mistercque i think i misunderstood you. I need to be using the grp outputs on the back of mixer instead of the direct outs. (In order to bounce tracks that is). Is this correct?
I think its weird that the smaller mixer (studio 24) has better routing features. I cant really use the group outputs because i record alot of drums and guitars at the same time. I guess ill just have to watch how many tracks im using. So there is no need to bounce.

Exactly ! When using the "GRP" outs, you can bounce the tracks over to any other track freeing up both GRP 1 & 2 and opening up other tracks!

Peace
Mr.Q

Allso if you connect a patch bay to the "GRP" outs on the 32 ,
repatching to both the "DIRECT" and "GRP" outs would be a WHOLE lot easier!!

Mr.Q

And you are correct that routing options on the 24 are indeed easier than the 32!
