anyone use it? like it?
i've got a chance to pick up a used 6.1 for $200.
although i realize this is an older model, it still seems like a good price. should i jump on it if it's in good condition?
i'm more of a guitar/bass player but looking to add some spacey sounds to my recordings, plus hopefully become a better player along the way.
i've been looking at alesises because a guy i play with has an alesis micron and gets extremely mind-bending sounds out of it.
can i expect the same from QS series?
also it has a case and stand...

paid 180. i like.
only problem is it was out of tune with the songs i wanted to use it for.
my easy fix was to re-record them with everything tuned to the alesis.
i'm sure there's a way to "tune" it, i just haven't felt like downloading the 200-page .pdf of the manual yet.

Look at my sig. I have ALOT of sh*t. I have had a QSR and I can tell you it is ONLY good for piano sounds. Trust me. If you just want to blow 200 bucks, go for it. if you gig it'll blend in with other instruments.

If using it for recording, forgedaboudit.

Like I said, 3 or 4 of the acoustic pianos are REALLY GOOD, Sample them and then sell it.

Just my $.02

PS. I traded it in after 6 months I hated it. If you want to blow 175 beans on somethins buy a jv-1080 or 250 beans on a jv-2080. Thats what they go for these days.

fair enough.
as mentioned though, i'm not really a keyboard player and just use it for ambient sounds and single-note things. also i'm trying to learn piano, but i will probably never play out with it.
recordingwise, only problem i've run into so far is a low hum (grounding issue?) coming from the outputs. don't know if that's a problem with the series or what.

i mean, i already bought the damn thing so i'm determined to stick with it for awhile and get what i can out of it. thanks for the belated advice though and if i ever get frustrated with it, i'll consider the rolands.

WELCOME TO ALESIS'S CRAP !!!

Thats why I said they fit in a mix live. I tried to EQ the hiss away to avail. It just wound up flatening the sounds I was using.

The D4 wasnt too bad, but nowhere as bad as the QS r/6/7 series

The nano piano, and other little stuff wasnt to bad.

If your gonna keep it then for $45 I would buy this:

Alesis Q Card HipHop $45 Just In!

Its pretty cool, and gives you a bunch more unique usefull sounds - its not just for hiphop.

And for $45, its a cheap way to get a bunch of new sounds.:D
