Alesis Multimix 8 USB question?

My brothers and I just purchased an Alesis multimix 8 USB and we have tried recording 3 things at once and it is not working. It came with Cubase LE and shows in the Inputs window only 2 available. The mixer comes with 4 mic/XLR ins and two stereo tracks for 5/6 and 7/8. I was wondering how to record up to 3 or 4 things at once or is the program or mixer limited to two tracks. Thanks for any help, Nate

Cubase LE is going to limit you to 4 at once total anyway, but... Open Cubase, Press F5 to open the VST Inputs, click on the button that turns on inputs 3 and 4 and you should be good to go...

My problem is that it doesn't show inputs 3 and 4 . How can I get them to show up? I have 1 and 2 but that's all it has in the window.

Thats because it is only a stereo mixer. If you want separate tracks you will need the Alesis multimix 8 firewire. Sorry mate

I dont own this, I just saw it at the store.

I THINK it only has two outputs, correct? Therefore, 2 is the magic number. With spdif you can probably get more if your soundcard has it. I am not sure what you are asking, a two output mixer will limit you to two channels no matter how many inputs the mixer has.

D'Oh.. Missed that bit about this being the USB mixer rather than the Firewire...

You can record 48 Audio Tracks total, but not all at one time.. You can only record 4 tracks at a time with Cubase LE. I think Cubase SE even limits you to 8 tracks at a time... SL opens things up a bit more, but is about $250...

The USB mixer is better suited for live recording, where the final mix is what the mixers feeding the software. That is also why the price is so different from the firewire. Hopefully you can return it/exchange it. You can record all the tracks you want with this but it will only let you get 2 individual tracks recorded at once.

So.......I'm looking to start recording, just recording 1 thing at a time, would this be ok for me, So as i understand it, you can record 48 tracks with the software provided, but only with 2 things at any one time? Also would the fan noise from the PC not be a hindurance while recording? i mean my PC is well.....not the quitest buy anymeans, + i want quite recodings, witch is half the reason why im going digital, So if im hijacking your thred, but i feel this is a valid point with PC recording.

Noise is noise. On the link I provided, I recorded the violins in my living room with the computer (store bought at sams club) about 4 feet from the mic. I also have the fridge 13 feet away. I cant do anything about it, I live with it. Its not ideal but you do what you can. If its think you can get way with a lot more

Depends I could get a lot of use out of it. I have a Yamaha mixer and M-audio firewire solo, its probably about the same. I can record two tracks at a time. I work alone or collab via internet so I dont need more. I cant record more than on person nor do I. If you work this way it shoud be fine.
