I recently bought the MultiMix 8 USB. Is this a good mixer for recording singing vocals?

I have the mixer hooked up to my laptop, and I am running a new Neumann TLM-103 into the mixer. I have heard music from several of my friends who also record with the TLM-103 on their computers. The vocals just sound more warm and smooth, and they're not super singers. Their vocals sound as though they are singing next to you, not into a mic, without any EQing. My vocals seem to sound more "electric" if you will, like you can tell im singing into a mic. EQing doesn't help. I mean, the sound is fine if I am recording just speech on a radio show for a podcast, but not good for music.

Is it possible that my new Neumann needs a more powerful preamp than whats in the multimix 8?

If so, what USB preamps will work well with Neumann?

Well Many Cheapo Mixers phantom power supplies are a bit shoddy and will have considerable voltage sag when there is a high current demand ...I have heard that Neumanns need a stiff phantom power supply to work properly as they draw more current than most condensers ....

I don"t know if this is your problem but it something to look into ....

Why are you useing such a cheapo mixer that has low quality preamps with a nice expensive mic like a neumann??

Cheers

Yeah, the phantom supply voltage or current does sound suspect. Either that or the mic's a dud. It happens. I can't imagine the preamp circuitry itself making a dramatic difference unless your friends are using something seriously colored (e.g. a tube pre).

It does seem pretty odd using a roughly $1000 microphone with a $150 interface. If I were you, I'd invest in something a little more solid like a MOTU 8Pre or something.
